Multiple charges, Overlaps and Impact dice

Post by philqw78 »

Something that came to mind whilst considering anti LH tactics. As an example: I have 2 BG of LH either side of a BG of Cv. In front of them are 3 BG of LH. See below

:x :x   :x :x LHLHCvCvLHLH

8) 8)  8) 8) LHLHLHLHLHLH

The Cav/LH battle Line charges the LH battle line. If the 2 BG of 8) LH stand to take the charge and the  BG evades what do the  Cav do? Do they stop at corner to corner and add their impact dice, 2 either side, or just carry on by through the gap, or stop at corner to corner and only get to add their overlap dice to melee?

I would say that if the charge were straight ahead, the Cav will shoot though the gap if their move + VMD is that long!

If the mixed line charged at an angle/with a wheel, all three LH have the option to evade but the Cav will hit one of the LH BGs if it opts to stand, if you see what I mean.

Charges are by individual BG. If the cavalry have only charged one BG and it evades then they chase after it in the direction that has been specified. In your diagram I can see no reason for them to stop their straight ahead move. I haven't got the rules with me but the wording of legal charge contact will be where the answer is to be found. From memory, I think the front corner has to contact an edge. I would suggest that in your example the bases will be making side edge to side edge contact only.
