CONTACTING A FLANK

Post by domblas »

when a BG of 6 bases in 3 files x 2 deep in side edge overlap pivot 90 ° to contact the flank of a BG of 8 pikes in 2 files of 4 deep. Lets imagine the pike doesn't turn coz they are in close combat front contact to ennemi. left front corner contact left front corner.

how many bases are considered in contact? coz the BG is 3 bases wide in front, the pike edge is 4x15 mm wide, so one base fully contacts 2 edges of pike and part of the third pike, the other file contacts remant part of third base of pike and fourth pike edge. Does the third file count as overlap?

I don't understand how you can be 3 bases wide?
If you start 3 wide 2 deep and you turn 90deg, you end up 1 wide 6 deep.

However, If you are 3 wide, you will have 2 bases in contact with the flank of the pike, with the 3rd one providing an overlap.
The rule under 'Moving into contact with enemy battlegroups' states
An overlap position is one with a base in any of the following situations:
(3rd bullet)
Front corner to front corner and side edge to side edge contact with a friendly base
facing the same direction that has all or part of its front edge in contact with the flank
edge of an enemy base.

ur right terry i cannot be 3 bases wide after turning, let say it is after turning and adding more bases

now imagine the contacted Pk BG are now 3 bases deep so the BG side edge is 45 mm long

i will then have one file with full contact on flank: 40 mm
one file with 5 mm contact on the flank of the third pk
one file without any contact

do i still have 3 files in melee: 2 in contact 1 in overlap?

As long as you still have partial contact with 2 bases after conforming then you still get the 3rd base as an overlap - So in this case yes!
