Modding News: Importing 3D Units & Mod Launcher

Post by adherbal »

Next patch will allow the importing of new 3D unit models created with 3D Studio Max. It also making mod management very easy by allowing players to choose what mod to launch at game start, without affecting the original game date.

After the patch, if you have a Mod installed in the My Document folder, the game will automatically detect it and open this screen on start-up:

Just a idea, add a special MOD sub-forum for items like these.

Will you be able to re-use units from BA in the next OOB-sequel?
That would certainly speed up the process.

Not really, I just used the template model they made available as a modding example. Both games handle things in a different way so even if you had the original BA models there's a bit of work to set them up for OoB.

I think the map limits are 120x120.
I have a template ready to make a map covering the whole of the Pacific

The mod launcher is basically a good thing to have, but I'd rather see it being a main menu selection where you select your desired mod once, gladly with necessary game restart, and won't be bothered anymore afterwards to click around at every game start until you change it.
With 1.6.0 (hotfix), the intro movies were basically replaced by the mod launcher "intro" now, that we have to click through everytime. You normally use and play your mods either all the time or campaign-like mods for many sessions until you switch maybe to a different mod or vanilla mode. Just saying it would be more convenient with a main menu selection.

PS: Forgot to write that my own mod, which consist of only the units.txt file, is still loaded although I have to select the original game option. The second mod window on the right isn't selectable. No idea what's the reason, but maybe I also need a pretty mod picture like the Churchill there.

Are we limited to using one mod at a time? It is hard to tell from the post. Thanks.

Really? This would be very bad news, can someone confirm this?

I tend to make use of most of the available map size in my scenarios and this is one reason the scenario may take a bit longer to load and AI to finish its turn.
