Re: Caracole II -- Phase 2
Result Pod B
flatsix518 (French (1494-1525)) 38% won vs rumguff (Italian (1494-1530)) 70%
Our battle was dominated by a good size wood. Rumguff occupied the wood with light troops and deployed a little behind with a portion of his right flank exposed. I charged directly to the center of rumguff's position with my Swiss pike, ignoring the light troops in the woods. Meanwhile, I swung a hard left hook with my gendarmes. Initially, I gained a big lead -- but in mid-game rumguff fought his way back into the battle. For quite awhile, we were only a few % points apart -- for a couple of turns 1% point apart. In the end, the Swiss earned their pay.
Thanks for a great game.

batesmotel (Russian 1560-97) 47% beat RBS (Polish 1576-1610) 66%
In a battle of attrition the Russians out lasted the Poles. For most of the game both sides were neck and neck in losses with the only thing clear about the outcome was that it would be Pyrrhic. Thanks for a great game.

Re: Caracole II -- Phase 2
Deadtorius (0%) German Catholic victorious vs Hrothgar Russian (44%)
Things started off a bit rough for the Germans as they initially planned to try and shoot their Russian opponents off a steep hill. Upon getting close to the Russian lines a few sneaky shot units in the woods made their appearance known, so the Germans decided to change flanks and marched across the battlefield taking artillery fire to assault the other Russian flank on a normal hill. The Germans left some cavalry and infantry behind to keep the Russians occupied on that flank. As it turns out, much to my surprise, the German cavalry was vastly superior to the Russian cavalry, easily breaking it and managing to swing around the Russian left and get mounted units in behind as my foot then moved up and began to shoot and get in a few charges. The unstoppable German cavalry managed to defeat all their Russian mounted counterparts grabbing our victory and keeping most of the foot units from even getting their uniforms dirty.
Thank you for the game Hrothgar, not sure what to say about your cavalry, I was as surprised as you as to how well the German cavalry was.

Managed to hold on to a victory:
Hrothgar: Russian 1598-1620 win [17%] vs kmaher: Polish 1576-1610
The Polish Hussars made my life difficult, as always, but between fire from my streltsy and flanking attacks by my cavalry I was able to prevail.

Re: Caracole II -- Phase 2
As kmaher has modestly refrained from posting the results of our first match, here they are:
kmaher: Dutch 1640-1648 win [30%] vs Hrothgar: Spanish 1635-1648 [59%]
The Dutch marched across my front, and, with cavalry leading the way, enveloped my left. The Spanish cavalry weren't up to dealing with the Dutch, and allowed his cavalry to swing behind my line, taking the Spanish tercios from the rear while the Dutch infantry assaulted them frontally. The Spanish made some impact on the small force the Dutch retained on their left, but the larger battle on their right was decisive.

Re: Caracole II -- Phase 2 -- My Plans
All,
It is my intention to close scoring for Round 2 on May 31 and post final results.
One nice benefit of the new scoring system is I can feel comfortable setting an arbitrary cutoff date.
In addiiton, I plan on taking a break from running the Caracole tournament for the Summer. Right now I'm looking at cranking another up in September. That can give others a space to recruit players into other formats -- or if someone else wants to run a Caracole while I'm taking a break, that is OK, too.
Best regards,
John

Re: Caracole II -- Phase 2
Tiopepe (Scots) 49% won Pantherboy (russian) 64%
The numerical superiority and an a flanking charge cavalry was the key to the Scots side.
good game!

Re: Caracole II -- Phase 2
More than a little late I'm afraid but to all my Pod C opponents lets go with
Russian 1560-97 vs Ottoman 1560-1609
It a filter off Tercio to Salvo game, so let me know if this will be a problem.
Cheers

Thanks for the game. More close than the numbers tells. I think I had a bit more luck, which made the difference.
