How does this compare to...?

Post by insidius »

How does this game compare to John Tiller's Campaign Series (East Front, East Front II, West Front)?

I STILL play that game and it's almost 20 years old. I liked its dynamic campaigns, difficulty, unit carry-over and random map generation.

Have any of you played it? How does this compare to it?

Thanks for your time and consideration!

while in some ways it's could be a updated version, in others it's more like panzer general with a campaign and troops that get xp and change / evolve etc, supply and terrain are big issues so be carful with moves in poor terrain etc, same as HQ / command etc

and yes i've played them all

Yes, JTCS had extensive rules for supply and units that gained xp and such. It sounds very similar and I want to pull the trigger on it, but I compare all games of this nature to JTCS and most modern games never stack up.

look and watch them a few times before you buy, as it's best to make sure before jumping it, either way good look and if you want to ask something, feel free, someone will answer it for you

There are not that many games handling the land combat in the Pacific (in addition to naval battles), so I think that is a plus too.

different fronts yes, but under the hood, basic game play style is the same, regarding HQ, supply, units and command and control etc, with air and sea and nukes thrown in at the end for a added bonus

difficulty
well on easy it's fun, on the you must be joking setting, eg hardest unless you are a jedi master with a 6th sense or cheat a lot like i did it will challenge everyone, but can be beaten and has been, just not by me, as i'm useless

In mutliplayer battles, do you just play a scenario from the campaign, or can each side kind of build their army with an equal number of points per side?

It depends on the scenario. These are specifically designed for MP and most of them allow you to purchase your forces at the first turn.

There are offensive/defensive scenarios, "meet in the middle " scenarios, cooperative vs AI, etc.

Thank you for the response.

I went ahead and purchased while I was waiting anyway. ;)

I liked what this studio did with Battle Academy and this just looks that much more advanced.

Note that we didn't "create" Battle Academy but were responsible for the scenario design of the original title and Blitzkrieg France expansion.

That being said, Order of Battle Pacific has certainly been inspired by Battle Academy. This can be seen in features such as unit abilities and terrain concealment.

Slitherine did, yes, but OOBP is developed by the Artistocrats. Slitherine are the publishers.
