You can redeem a free Steam for your games by doing this:

1. Register the game serial number in your account:

Both versions should be updated simultaniously whenever there is an update. As far as I can tell there is no need for "approval" from Steam or anything so there shouldn't be any delays in updates there.

The multiplayer system requires that we update both versions simultaneously or it simply wont work.

JUST (few mins ago) bought the game in Slitherine's shop and already redeemed my Steam key.

Steam has not yet unlocked the game, hope they do so soon, want to start downloading!
