LOS accuracy reduction

Post by DuncanStewart »

Hi, I'm trying to do a mod which increases the value of infantry and making tanks immune to small arms fire. I want to increase the LOS penalty for shooting through units. Can someone point me to the file that does this. I can only modify terrain at the moment, so it would be a big help. Also the file where the attack percent chance happens.

Through experimentation I have found that each point difference betweeen Attack and Defence after Armor Penetration is a 1% chance +- to hit. But I can't figure out how much damage is determined. It seems that any given weapon can only kill as many units as there are shots, but that weapons can do more damage based on HP and relative attack values, but I can't determine what the formula is.

Also, sometimes in an assault there is retaliation and sometimes there is not. It seems like when there is sufficient "overkill" the defending side doesn't get to retaliate. There might be some mechanic I'm not aware of. Maybe something to do with initiative?

My mod is going to be mostly about fluff and secondarily about making the game a little more rock-paper-scisory. I don't like the fact that bolters are more powerful than heavy bolters, and that Space Marines armor is only 5 points higher than IG soldiers and lower than Ard Boyz. Or that bolters can destroy Land Raiders, even if it is inefficient.

That. I can't realy help you, but tell me when the mod is done .
I don't see a reason for the unfluffy stuff to be in the game. Pretty sure it would be fun and balanceable even if the weapons would behave more fluffy. Not that the game is very good balanced at the moment but I'm sure they do what the can. :P

I agree with all of your points, especially about the power of bolters and Space Marines vs. Guard troops.

Decrease the attack value of all small arms by 15, but then increase shots from 2 to 3. Then infantry's damage value vs. similar-defense opponents will stay the same, but against higher-defense opponents (like vehicles) it will decrease, and against lower-defense opponents, it will increase.

Basically, shootas will go from damaging a basic Leman Russ 30% of the time to damaging it 15% of the time, and they will be near useless vs. Land Raiders or super heavies.

Well I have solved all the issues, this is going to be extensive. I'm also going to be putting up an in depth guide on how to mod units.

Only two questions remain, how to change the core unit slots and how to make LOS affected by units.

Ground unit movement speeds up quite a bit if you keep along the monorail.
