Cheating opponents!

Post by captkiwi »

Is there a way to see if an opponent is cheating during the game? We have just had turn 50 and yet he has about 10 battleships, just as many fighters and dive bombers, and countless infantry on the map. Plus he must be upgrading as the game progresses.

Are you playing GS 3.10? I believe I read that in previous versions it was possible to switch the advantage option after a game was already underway, but in 3.10 that was fixed. You can check the options by selecting the charts and tables window, and scrolling through the various pages. I think it is the last page. I assume if the opponent changed that option they would have to leave it on to gain the extra PPs each turn. If it is the current 3.10 version, then I think the only way would be to set the advantage as the Axis player when starting the game. Again, this can be checked the same way. I have no idea if there are other ways to unfairly increase one's production income.

Yes we are playing GS 3.10. Unless specified, all the PBEM games I've played so far have had no advantage for either side. Sort of a gentleman's agreement. I've noticed too that his ships never run into my subs even though I blockaded the Channel. He seems to know to take the long way around. I hope guys like him are few and far apart.

Hell, I agree with you completely.

Of late I have stopped playing completely after several very disappointing situations like you describe.

I don't know how they do it but there seem to be a cheat on this. I have had the same experience where waves after wave of units come at me, against an opponent that has no regards towards losses. There was several instances where I completely wiped out the Russian army in 1941 even taking Moscow, Stalingrad and by 1942 I was loosing the game BIG time... LOL

Most of the "problematic games" seemed to be coming from a certain area of the world, or at least my impression of them and their nicks.

anyway kinda bumming and ive moved on to other games now that this one isn't clean anymore.

It's a bummer alright especially since I thought I was holding my own, but WHAM...the Russian horde was upon me and it was only turn 50. I win some and lose many  but I would have liked to think I was beaten fairly.

Maybe we need a whistleblower to describe how it is done, so that it can be fixed.

I have a suggestion immature.
You can exchange your password after completing the game
Email still exist
Check the early turns in order to verify.
Or, if you do not want to waste time,
Find a mutually acceptable third party
Both sides regard the password and save both to him
By him to be checked.
But I have to say, the loss of trust in the play is bad
I hope CEAW-2 can solve these problems!

Since the game is created in Java then all you need is a Java decompiler and some knowledge in Java to cheat. Preventing that is not possible. If you can cheat to add new units or give yourself lots of extra PP's then you can also cheat to remove or fool tests we add to detect cheats. Some can hack the save game file and find where the remaining PP's is stored and change that with a file editor.

Using Java is one of the flaws on CEAW, but without it we would not have had GS at all. So it was a blessing too.

I can login to any side. So if you suspect cheating you can send me your save game. Then I can analyze it to check if I see anomalies (too high PP's, oil remaining, huge build queues etc.). I can also see the total number of units for the side and analyze if it was possible to get that many units with the PP's available for that country.

So please send me your save game for analysis if you want more input. Send me your email address via a PM and I send you mine.

You can even spy on your opponent's forces by opening the forces dialog box to the right of the losses dialog box. Here the enemy forces are shown with the accuracy of +/-2.

So if you see that your opponent has more air and tank units that you can only dream of then you know he's not getting them legally. E. g. if you see the Soviets having 10 tanks, 6 tactical bombers and 6 fighters when the 1941 winter offensive starts then you know something fishy is going on. Especially if they have more than just the minimum tech. The only way to get these high cost units so early is to ignore commanders, labs and infantry corps completely.

Actually the best way to solve this problem is hotseat ! Face to face !

Welcome any player visit Beijing & have a hotseat !

There is a list which I do respect & want to invite them to Beijing to have a hotseat play ! ( I 'd like to pay for their travel expense of Beijing hotseat trip if necessary )

At present the list including : 1 Ronnie He was the one who introduced me to be a beta tester of GS . I do thank & respect him !
2 Borger He is the one which I have asked hundreds of time for a pbem & be refused for hundreds of time . :( He is a master which I will be always looking forward to play with . :) no matter in Norway or China .
3 Joe He is the only one who had defeated me by both Axis & Allies ! I am so interested in playing with them by GS3.1 . But It seems he had quit this game . :(

Besides the above people , Anyone who will come to Beijing & defeat me by either Axis or Allies , I will pay for his round trip airticket ;
If anyone can defeat me by both Axis & Allies , I will be so glad to pay for all his Beijing trip expense . :D

Looking forward to this dream 's coming true ! :D

Joe has beaten me too so we are in the same boat there. :)

I'm not playing generally these days. I only have one GS v3.20 game going to playtest some changes. One reason I don't play is that I haven't finished a game for several years. When you are a beta tester you play until you get the answers you want. Then you make some changes to the game settings and start another game. So you rarely play to the end. That's not a way normal players like to play.

I'm not a professor. I only have university education. :) I'm pretty good at GS, but I know for sure there are others better than me. Joerock, Supermax and you to name a few. I'm not playing enough to have the killer instinct to beat elite opponents.

This is why I don't play online or PBEM anymore. There's just too many who can cheat and will cheat at all costs to win the game or make your playlife miserable.

It ended in a game of Age of Empires that was going well until one guy started losing. Then all of a sudden tanks and police cars invaded the game and this was online too.

Basically Ima be like developers and publishers with their DRM scheme that basically says everyone is a thief. Everyone to me now is a cheater and it's up to the developers now to create games that people can't cheat at.
