Re: Caracole II -- Phase 2
Should we start the challenges now, or wait for a consensus on options allowed?

What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

Re: Caracole II -- Phase 2
Start fightin'.
I'm planning to allow all new options, but not require them.
If someone hasn't bought the expansion, they can decline the proposal and explain.
If someone doesn't like the terrain option, they can decline and offer an alternative.
I'll post instructions to this effect -- once I get through my spring yard work tasks.

Ulysisgrunt,
I'll take the Dutch. What sort of terrain did you have in mind?

Ulysisgrunt,
It's set up. I went w/ Agricultural, which seems to be the default. PW = ulysis.
Good game!

Re: Caracole II -- Phase 2
Pod A result:
rbodleyscott (French Huguenot 1600-1610) (13%) won vs Aryaman (Spanish 1600-1609) (49%)
The terrain was Pot Luck, but pot luck decreed that the battle be fought on heavily wooded terrain. The Spanish picked a good clear position on a hill, but their position was compromised when the French commanded arquebusiers won the battle for the wood on their right, so they advanced off the hill. The Royal Swiss made up for the deficiencies of the rest of the French infantry, by quickly defeating one Average Tercio, and fighting one of the Elite Tercio Viejos to a standstill until they were charged in the rear by French cuirassiers. French cuirassaiers, assisted by commanded shot, dealt with the Spanish gendarmes, although not without heavy losses amongst the arquebusiers.
Many thanks Aryaman for an interesting game. Sorry about the terrain.

Note I modified the scoring system to what I hope is a final form.
Players receive 1 point for a loss and 3 points for a win. This is to reward not just winning, but also playing.
Best regards,
John

All,
I have updated the instructions to address the "Tercio to Salvo" module and terrain options. Also note the change to run on "medium" maps.
Best regards,
John

Pod3 Game Results
In a well fought and bloody battle the experience of the Spanish Infantry was decisive, overcoming my ineptness (chasing hose into the woods, where I could not charge).
Hrothgar (loss) Dutch 1640-1648 loss 56%
Ulysisgrunt (win) Spanish 1621-1634 loss 28%
Many thanks for the game

Re: Caracole II -- Phase 2
deadtorius (54%) victorious Vs Hrothgar (63%)
It was an interesting match as I deployed to my far left in the hopes of making for a hill over there. The Transylvanians sent their horse off to my right flank and by turn 3 I had made the hill only to discover the lure of spring flowers had attracted some crafty Transylvanians who were hiding on the hill in the woods. A bloody fight which could have gone either way, but God smiled upon the righteous Catholic forces and broke a unit of Transylvanian pike and shot before the enemies final turn, taking the win, barely.
Thanks for a great game.
