Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
While I quite like this campaign format (I am perhaps a little biased) I am planning a differently structured team campaign for some time in the future. To this end and being slightly lazy, does anyone have a map or list of major towns and cities circa 1642? I'm currently thinking about having important centres as 'nodes' with travel/communication lines between them. This should allow for the development and movement of 'fronts', encirclements, etc. Strategic movement (and thereby challenges) would be in an IGOUGO format with initiative for different fronts going to the current 'winning' team...

Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
In a hard- fought battle my army was defeated by Lord Keyth.
Keyth 35% loss; Ulysisgrunt 61%
My cavalry was disappointing, and although It was close until midday with equal losses of 31% each, I realized my army was "spent" with no fresh or battle-worthy units.
I should have ordered a withdrawal then.....

What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
A great battle and well-fought; no hedgerow skulkers were to be found in either camp. With a wood giving a little protection to my left flank, we advanced towards a stream that ran across the battlefield, with our brave, spaniel-toting cavaliers heaviest on our right. To give full credit to General Ulysis, his troops advanced briskly in good order and, in but a short time, a hot exchange of fire occurred across the stream while a major cavalry action developed on my right. The traitor's horse held firm at first, repulsing some of our men who may have overly caroused the previous night. Ultimately the veteran cavaliers overcame most resistance, while charge and counter-charge of pike in the centre and on the left resulted in the Parliamentary centre giving way.
Well fought, was certainly in the balance for a while!

Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
Thats good news. I had reconciled myself to this being a brief enjoyable swansong for my favourite period in P&S before being overtaken by the start of a lengthy 30YW campaign or horrors - an Italian War one with no return to the ECW in the near future - unless God forbid I started one myself! Much better for someone (ie you) who knows what their doing.keyth wrote:While I quite like this campaign format (I am perhaps a little biased) I am planning a differently structured team campaign for some time in the future. Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
No risk of the horrors of the Italian Wars - not my bag at all! All things being equal (and interested players being involved), I hope to keep running this format quite regularly for ECW as it seems to be a pretty good fit. Even with the light strategic layer, it is fairly easy to administer and will become more so when I have a bit of time to sit down and re-engineer the spreadsheet or, better, convert it into Access so I just have a data entry screen and it does all the restIronclad wrote:Thats good news. Strategy Layer v2.0 (which is still in its very, very early stages) would suit both the ECW and 30YW; ECW is an easier test-bed as it covers a smaller geographic area and only two factions so it seems sensible to lead with that. Once I have a few more concrete plans I'll share them with anyone who is interested - I am more than happy to collaborate via PM or e-mail to get a decent and balanced system up and running.

Admin note: I'm on holiday for the next week but will still be playing and checking things, though responses and updates may be slightly delayed. Most likely dependant on alcohol and snowboard related injuries (I'm rubbish at it though it's fun, a bit like P&S
)

What will be the parameters for the next round re army size and map size, now that we have new terrain?

Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
To keep the map size the same, you will need to specify Medium width. The new Medium width is the same as the old Very Wide.Warlord wrote:What will be the parameters for the next round re army size and map size, now that we have new terrain?

Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
Thanks Richard. There will also be different terrain types available for the attacker depending on region - I'll post these soon.

So, post-update map size should be medium agricultural except:
Highlands & North Wales: hilly or mountains
South West, South Wales, & Lowlands: hilly or agricultural

It is the attacker who is going to select terrain? To me it sounds more logical for the defender to select terrainkeyth wrote:Thanks Richard. There will also be different terrain types available for the attacker depending on region - I'll post these soon.

Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
Army size is medium. Defender choosing terrain makes more sense - I originally thought attacker as it's one less step in the process (they can choose when creating the challenge) but if defenders tell their CiC and it is in the dispositions, it can be published in the challenge list.

Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
Late report our messenger was badly mauled
North East
parliament wins
Deadetorius (Parliament) 42% Vs Doyley50 (Royalist) 66%
The North East is slowly seeing the light as to who should truly rule this fair land.
Hats off to General Doyley50, I gained a fair early lead and thought it was looking good, when suddenly he turned the tables and started to catch up. Victory was finally granted when our Lord on high finally got as tired as I was of a silly Cavalier who had been flanked charged, dropped to fragged, facing 2 of my own dour cavalry, but continued to fight turn after turn, finally broke. Thank you chaps, that was the clincher to teach the peasants who is in charge here.

Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
Neither of you should feel too bad, I got totally destroyed on my home turf by a Royalist who must have used witchcraft or is lucky in the extreme.
Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
central east : turenne : 57 % iandavidsmith ; 60 % a hard fought battle till the last turn
Re: The Great Rebellion Campaign
Midwest result. Glorious obscenely bloody victory for Parliament
Cavehobbit royalist 61%, Shawkhan2 Parliament 48%
With our honour impugned by the insidious Royalist lackey cavehobbit, our Noble although very dour Parliamentary troops met the King's lapdogs on the open field, so no excuses of hedgerow skulking could be laid at our door. The bloodletting was intense, and as is the case whenever the Cavehobbit is involved, the result was in doubt until near the end of the battle. Having lost twice in a row, the Royalist commander vows to fight us again, in the vain hope of actually defeating the men who walk the Path of Righteousness.
Next time we will not be bound to the foolishness of battle w/o regard to terrain. Back to the life of the dour humorless coward for us.
