Game Crash 3.10

Post by rudgwickjohn »

Hello,
I wonder if anyone could help me with this problem.

My enjoyment of this game is being spoiled by the game crashing. This occurs after clicking on a unit periodically. The screen goes black and you're returned to Desktop. Occurs every few turns.

I'm afraid that I'm not at all computer literate and my technical skills are almost zero, so I'd be very grateful for a simple step-by-step solution. I use Windows 7.

Thanking you in advance.

Try reinstalling CEAW first and then GS v3.10. It could even be a Java issue so make sure you have it upgraded too.

This is not a crash issue I've seen from anyone else so it could be a corrupt installation.

I have exactly the same trouble.
Will make a re-installation.

I also have sometimes invisible units.
For example, an ennemy fighter not seen before it makes an interception.
Or sometimes, a partisan unit.
I only see theirs stats.

Hello Stauffenberg.

Thank you very much indeed for your welcome advice.

Sorry to be a little vague on this, but when you say " try re-installing CEAW" could you tell me how to do this please. When I purchased the game it came with a disc and a "one-off" download. Do you want me to merely put the disc into the computer and let it install? I don't think that I can re-do the download again, because as I said it was a once only event. Possibly this is not needed?

Because of my lack of computer skills, I have difficulties with zip downloads. I believe the v 3 10 is such a download. Is there a procedure to follow to ensure that the zip is correctly downloaded. Any help would be appreciated.

I'll be 70 next year. I love the marvellous challenge of strategy computer games such as this, but my extreme lack of computer skills is a real handicap. Any advice on the above would be wonderful, no matter how basic it is.

Thanking you in advance for your kind reply.

It's not easy to answer how to reinstall since there are many different versions out there. Some use the old original Slitherine CEAW. Some use the Military History-CEAW from Slitherine. Some use the MH-CEAW from Matrix Games. Some use a version where GS in any version is bundled with the CEAW.

Did you get a serial number when purchasing CEAW? GS v3.10 doesn't work with the oldest versions that didn't have serial numbers. This is because the GS v3.10 installer will look in the registry for a valid serial number.

Before helping you further I need to know which version you bought and when. Did you first install CEAW and then GS v3.10 as a download later? Or were these bundled together?

I don't think Slitherine or Matrix Games have sold you a one time only install of CEAW. Maybe the download you refer to was a bundle offer or something. What does the disk say? Does it say MH-CEAW v1.12 or something else? Slitherine or Matrix Games or a different company?

What I would do is to find the main CEAW folder and just rename it to e. g. C:\Slitherine\Commander - Europe at War old

This way you always have access to the old files if the new install doesn't work. Then you can install the base CEAW game again using the CD selecting the default folder offered by the installer. You start it to see that it's running. Then you download GS v3.10 and install it to the SAME folder as the CEAW folder.

GS v3.10 download location:
http://www.matrixgames.com/products/344 ... t.War.Gold

Here you find both the PC and MAC download

Hello

Thank you very much for your assistance. I have purchased many Slitherine/Matrix games and it's difficult to remember how all the installations were enacted. However I feel that after reflection that CEAW was a single one from a disk and did not include a "one-off" accompanying download. Later there were two patches available which I seem to think were 2.5 and 250 (1) zip? Later I recently discovered the 3.10 download also. I hope this helps.

In answer to your questions:

1) The box says "Commander Europe At War. It says on the back " This new Gold release for the PC includes all the fixes and improvements from the original release from the latest bs and PSP releases, as well as six new campaigns". The front of the box has Matrix, Slitherine and Firepower logos. There's an upturned helmet as a picture.

2) Yes, I received a 16 number serial number in blocks of four numbers.

3) As mentioned above, I installed CEAW first and the GSv3.10 later.

4) The disk has a number PL-131467 and the date is 29/10/2012.

Incidentally, I'm intrigued by the reference to "six new campaigns". Can you explain this as I've only ever been able to play a single campaign either as Axis or Allies starting in 1939 with varying degrees of difficulty. Am I missing these other campaigns ?
