Gemini EOR? I just looked at that, it's awful! You've got the Gemini itself to research, though that can be pretty good by the time you start the programme, but there's also the Gemini service module, the lunar lander, and TWO spacesuits. Most of these things start at 3%, and every mission uses all of them, so you get little carryover from other programmes and can't flight test them piece-by-piece like you can with Apollo. A terrible option.
Gemini DA is pretty easy though, just a few pieces of equipment with good carryover from others. Just landed on the Moon in 1967.3 on normal difficulty.

So I've been playing the US and Soviet campaigns, on Hard difficulty.
1st Moon landing was as NASA with Gemini EOR in Q1 1972
2nd was as Nasa with Apollo in Q1 1971 as well
3rd was as Soviets wwith L-3 Soyuz/LK Lunar landing in Q3 1972

Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963... That's well into Q4.

Q4 Hire everyone 90+ and look for a talented exception (88 or 89)
The reason I do it this way is so that I can get to the next quarter and hire the Best. This is where I thin out the expensive people and keep my costs low. I want at least 3 astronauts and will go up to 7 but usually don't. I can always shop around down the road for people. I build the Rocket Assembly later so I save on on the maintenance. Q3 of the first year or Q2 of the second. Somewhere I'll upgrade and buy the Titan program in the first budget season. Remember I'm training for the direct mission all along. When I purchase Gemini, I had over 20,000. This is mainly due to stockpiling and low expenses. I close programs immediately when they are done and if I'm confident, I'll close them after schedule, but before launch.
The biggest thing is train using continous. Select your personel wisely and be very careful with the Rocket Assembly it can be very expensive early in terms of money and very costly in terms of time if you are late.
It may be possible to beat my record, but you'll need luck and a lot of planning.
Here's the optimal MC: 4 Trajectory, 4 Mission Ops, 2 Spacecraft Systems, 2 Crew and Payload, and 1 Propulsion.
I train my Mission Ops to have One good at Propulsion, Two good at Trajectory and the last Spacecraft You want the back up Propulsion in case you want to Launch an Explorer Mission and let your Gemini stars train in the background. You can also use the backup propulsion to launch a Lunar Flyby as a Saturn V Test.
When switching to the Gemini Direct, I open the Earth program and close the Regular Gemini program. I do very few building upgrades.

I did it basically the same as earlier, but had to test the Saturn V more. The extra seasons allowed me to afford the Uncrewed Lunar Pass to test the landing vehicle and another go with the Saturn V.
Without having employees leave, or the year with only one launch pad,it can probably be done in Q4 1964 and perhaps Q3.
I play this game way too much.

I never considered their learning ability, that'll make a difference. I'd just choose the best 4 people at each thing, then have 3 on a payload/rocket while the 4th was studying, then swap that one in for one of the 3, and so on. Or 5 with 1 rotating in and out if cash was good.

Here's how I break the people down:
I want 4 on the Thorable and at least 2 on the probe. I'll take low learning ability for a rocket man if they have a high rocket number. My thinking is I'll fire them when I close the Thorable program.
I use 4 on the Human Rockets and train them early. Think 75-90 in training with 90+ intelligence.
I do the same for the Crew Experts. If I can, I'll covert those Thorable people to 2 Crew 1 EVA and 1 Probe.
On Gemini 2 Probe for the Docking and 2 for the EVA work well enough.
You want well trained rocket people for the Saturn V. Also keep an eye for when the 4th guy seems like he's only adding 1 percent. That's usually a good time to train. The extra Crew people come in handy when I want a few extra quarters of research on the Direct vehicle but also want a bit more R&D on Gemini.

Great game, unfortuntely i found it so late march 2018. Only tried it on after tutorial play (probably it is equal to sandbox Nasa). Finished by symbolical 1969 Q3 . Was fairly easy. Did almost all achivements except Jupiter flyby (was launched but on stage 6 of 21), and both venus&mercury programs (not launched). Also did docking action only during Appollo program (during lunar orbit LEM test and during lunar landing ofcause) but somehow it is not count them for this achivement (that's strange).
Now trying on buzz-hard. First 4 years went fine (satellite + x-15 fulfilled with thor rocket) with 1 quarter margin 3500$ availiable and positive balance all the way. Second 4 years did't count budget well so can't finish manned orbit flight during mercury program (were planned Pioneer 4, Pioneer 2, Mercury manned suborbital and orbital) so got not all required prestige and not max budget for next 4 years. Guess not a good result, so will try to do it it other way before continue it with current result. If everything fine will write short aar.
