testing CT for seing BG breaks

Post by domblas »

the rules specifie that a BG that see another BG breaking (non skirmishers aren't affected if they see skirmishers) they have to test cohesion. And a distance is specified. i think it is 4 or 2 MU, anyway : my question is: when shall we check that distance? At the moment the BG starts to routs, at the end of its move or during all its move? And only for the first rout move? or for the following ones ?

The CT for troops breaking is taken after all combat in that phase is over but before any routers are moved, so the 3MU is measured from their position when they first break.

The only other CT for seeing friends break I can think of is taken in the impact phase when fragmented troops who fail their test when being charged, break instead of standing. Friends within 3MU of this event test immediately they "see" this happen.

This CT is for being within 3MU of troops when they first break. The subsequent rout moves by the broken group do not trigger tests, even if the routing BG moves within 3MU of a BG that hadn't tested for seeing it rout initally.

When a BG of Elephants breaks because it has lost one base, is the distance measured from the two Elephants bases or only from the base that has not been removed ?

p112, column 2, bullet point 2, says measure the distance before any bases are removed!

True, but it's not removed until the end of the JAP so it will still do rout moves until then.

OH I SEE

if u test for seing the remnant elephant base routing then IMO u should measure from it
the destroyed one isn't on the table anymore

You test when the Elephants break for those in range, not later for seeing routers.

The purpose of the rout of the sole elephant base is to lure pursuers forward and possibly burst through troops behind.
