Combat Mission

Post by acctingman »

Hello folks

I'm really interested in picking up BA2 for a "solo ww2" experience as it looks like the mods are coming on nicely for this game. However, I know BA2 is a little "simple" compared to Combat MIssion 2.

I do know that CM2 has a HUGE learning curve and I was wondering if anyone here has played CM2 and could offer suggestions as to which game they'd use to try and play an all encompassing ww2 game? BA2 or CM2?

Is CM2 going to be too much of a PIA to master?

It might not so kind to make a comparison between BA2 and CM2, it might sound like eggs and apples ... they are different; however i would say that BA2 offers random maps for skirmishes just one or two mouse clicks away .... easy to learn, fast to deliver a battle; i own CM2 and it is a real good game, it is a good and realistic game, but if i have some little spare time (just half an hour after the hard day of work) i always turn on BA2 for a skirmish

While CM2 has overwhelming graphics that does not make a great wargame. The AI in combat mission (both of them) is not very good at all. The only good game vs the AI in the Combat Mission series is when the AI is on defense only. I've beaten it when it was on an assualt mission outnumbering me 2 to 1 or better. That's no fun really as you can predict pretty much where the ai is going and where it is going to appear.

BA I or 2 does not have this problem. It has a very good ai and is real good at preparing for your advancements. I lose tons of units to the BA ai I hardly lose any to the CM ai.

Plus, the fact that the CM series alone could cost you well into the hundreds of dollars for all the mods and updates/patches that Battlefront charges for now. You get it all pretty much in BA for half the cost or less. Plus, I think the modding community here is a lot better than there.

It's for you to decide but that's my feedback for you.

I own CM 123 and BA 1 2, I think both games are equally good, Buy the game if you like CM as you do, you will like this ,it's deeper than it looks
