Re: Schiltron 2015, 7-8th March 2015, Stirling
Update from the spotted dog.
Rob Taylor was called away at the last minute to crunch some beans for his company. He's an accountant you know!
The mysterious Irishman remains a mystery.
George isn't playing. His mum isn't at all well so that's okay by him. We all wish GD's mum all the best for a speedy and complete recovery.
Usual script from the basho today with a lot of first up cadgey games ending on a near even points sharing of 20 points. Big winners in round one were Paul Funnyman and Gary L. Moving into round two that shortened to Paul Funnyman who leads the basho at thye end of day one on 45 points. PF is playing John Muir who has 35 points in game three tomorrow. Spotted dog on 33 points will be playing Alan C on 32 points. John Munro on 32 points will be playing Mike K and that's your top three tables folks.
Tune in tomorrow for the final analysis .............

SK is no relation to SD - honest!navigator wrote:on a similar vein there is a comedy night 7.30pm on Friday night at the spotted kangaroo (or something similar) in Stirling... I might drop down there as will be around all day.
John, I could see if they have a slot for you as your wargames humour could go down well with the punters... We could persuade Robert to do a puppetry of the pea shooter act too!
Hope Hunter is painting merrily away and I will look forward to renewing all the hellos on Saturday
my mobile is 07974 686 556 if anyone wants to meet up Friday evening
cheers

All done and dusted amigos and a BIG well done to george Dick of Glasgow wargames club for organising and delivering the basho. The podium finishers were John Munro in third place, Spotted Dog in second and Paul Johnston in top spot. Well done paul!

Excellent weekend all round, and can I echo a big thanks to George for organising. Great venue as well, super tables, possibly the best I've seen in any FoG competition....!
Re: Schiltron 2015, 7-8th March 2015, Stirling
yes just to say thanks and well done George for a very friendly event in a great location. Thanks to all my opponents for excellent games.
Neil fell on his sword just seconds before the last bound was called, Gary's troops lost heart when their camp was sacked in move 5 and John Muir's highlanders were cutting through my army at the halfway point until they were struck down by a rabble of peasants on horses.. a double drop and then fleeing turned the tables and meant an almost certain victory slipped through his fingers.
Hunter rightly chose glorious surrender and subjucation to the true Scots rather than be ground into dust. A great effort for an army put together in just 4 days and a worthy second place.
Comedy moment of the weekend was watching John Munro attempt to finish off Gary's Burgundians. Every time John was on the cusp of victory, Gary killed a general.. until all four of John's generals lay slain. This was followed closely by Mike and Alan playing each other, both armies teetering on the bring of collapse and both players begging George to call time! They slaughtered each other yet ended up at 10 all.
So, lots of fun as always...At least both crowns of Scotland are now unified.. I'll be back later in the year to check how the vassals are getting on !

Well done Paul - that's 2 on the trot. Will Roll Call make it 3?
And big congratulations to Hunter for finishing ahead of his compatriots....I'm sure Mr Munro was equally magnanimous.

Paul, forgot to mention that by killing my fourth and last general Gary lost the game. Without the impediment of my generalship my troops were inspired to victory ( and about time too!!).
Pete, of course I was magnanimous about Hunter coming in ahead of me on the winner's rostrum. It had to happen sometime. Like Miss Jean Brodie, I suspect that I must be past my prime.

Retained the trophy?
Didn't Gordon Jamieson win it last year?
