Vanishing SE hero units?

I've noticed that during a few of my campaigns, between scenarios I sometimes have a SE hero unit that vanishes. For example, the Italian BA65 with hero I had was alive and well at the end of the Halfa Ridge scenario, and come the next one he's mysteriously vanished. It wasn't recorded in the casualty list. This has also happened in my Russia campaign with a few of my SE hero aerial units. Forgive me for my ignorance, as I'm not on here much. Thanks in advance for your help.

Did the whole unit vanish or just the hero from the unit? In the fist case, considering it was aerial units, they probably run out of fuel and crashed. This losses doesn't get listed in the casualty list as i already noticed as well. It sometimes happens to me as well. I simply tend to put damaged units somewhere in the back at an airfield but instead accidentally park them at the city close to an airfield and ignore them assuming they are safe.

If only the heroes vanish then i got no idea what could cause it and i never noticed such a thing before.

It is quite possible that this was a hero unit that serves as an auxillary. Sometimes the developers choose SE units for their camo and better stats, hoping that you will understand how the system works in this regard.

If you ran out of fuel it won't show as a loss.
