user.txt file

Post by merriferin »

] a friend of mine just bought legion arena and installed it on his computer. he was able to run the demo alright but when he went to start the game up, he got a black screen and then it went back to the desktop. we have tried to go into the data directory on the cd and we were going to add "NOSOUND 1" to the end of the user.txt file; however, we can not seem to find that particular file. the reason we were going to do this was an answer we found here in the forum. one error message says he needs to update his video driver and another message says it is a conflict between the game sound and the computer's sound card. any suggestions as to solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance. :)

user.txt lives in the data directory which is inside the directory the game installed to.

However, if the demo ran correctly, but the full game will not, then it is more likely that the install failed in some way. I would try uninstalling, removing any remaining files after that, and then reinstalling the game.

Cheers

Just a user tip here, I'm not anybody official.

To run dxdiag, just hit Win-R, (or press Start button and then "Run") and type in "dxdiag", then press enter.

See what version of DirectX you have. It sounds like maybe you don't have Directx 9.0c installed?

If that's all good, then try DL'ing a newer driver for your video card. If you use an Nvidia card, you can grab new drivers very quickly and painlessly from www.nvidia.com

And you're not the first person to find the demo less temperamental than the full game!

Also, if you read this before a Slitherine guy replies, go ahead and post your OS, video card, etc. They're going to ask for that info before proposing any solutions beyond what I've offered above.

Above all, hang in there! You're almost into the best game you've played in years. Legion Arena rawks, and the community is small but very high-quality.

edit

hah! Pip replied while I was typing!

Just for the record, the demo is (quite literally) the same code as the full game, bar some small changes to make it incompatible with the main game data. The graphics engine etc is exactly the same...

Doesn't mean things turn out different though... ;)

My gut says (for this issue) that it's a bad install.
