Pod 3 round 1 result:
rbodleyscott (Swedish 1630-1634) (26%) won vs shawkhan2 (Spanish 1621-1634) (53%)
The Spanish hid so many troops in terrain that I thought they had forgotten to spend some of their points. Their cavalry attempted to outflank the Swedes on both flanks.
The game was close run but it was an uphill task for the Spanish against the dreaded salvo foot, and victory eventually went to Gustavus.

Re: Pike & Shot Caracole II
Two results of pod 1:
- flatsix518 German Catholics 1639-48 (56%) won vs. Hutze German Protestants 1639-48 (64%)
The Catholic veterans were deployed in strong position on the central hill of the battlefield. A Protestant frontal attack didn't promise any favourable results. Therefore my infantry moved to my right flank, to concentrated fire on one part of the enemy line or at least lure the Catholics from their positions. Meanwhile the main part of my horse did a wide flanking manouver on my left. Their objective was to exploit some openings, if the Catholics started to shift their troops to confront my infantry. As the battle commenced, the plan seemed to work quite well, despite some slow and uncoordinated movements on the Protestant side. The battle culminated in a chaotic and close fight on the hilltop and the Catholics were able to hold their position.
- guillaume Italian 1594 (13%) won vs. Hutze French 1594 (34%)
The French were suprised to meet an enemy without any heavy infantry. The Italians deployed in two long lines of light infantry and a mix of heavy and light cavalry. Not able to engage the evading light troops, my aim was to rout some heavy cavalry with my keils. But soon they got swarmed by the Italians and stripped off their supporting troops. In the end, it wasn't enough to beat a few of the Italian cavalry.
Thanks both of you for the good games!

When I woke up this morning and saw the "Game Over" email -- I thought sure I'd lost. It was that close.Hutze wrote:Two results of pod 1:

At one point in the battle, Hutze's Protestants had me completely surrounded -- all four sides. I thought sure I was going to lose.

And another pod 1 result:
- kmaher Catholics 1619 (39%) won vs. Hutze Protestants 1618 (64%)
The battle was fought on top of a wooded hill. Quite claustrophobic without much room for movement. I thought this would be advantagious for my tercios, crashing into the enemy line and win the day by close combat. But they were to slow in routing the Protestants, one even fled the field. The kurassiers didn't fared much better and rallying Protestant troops sealed the fate of the Catholics. Thanks for the game, kmaher.

Re: Pike & Shot Caracole II
This thread is getting hard to follow, has anyone issued me a pre-challenge or challenge that I have failed to pick up?
Would anyone from Pod3 that I am due like to issue me a pre-challenge? I am running out of games to play.

What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

Re: Pike & Shot Caracole II
Congratulations to Tiopepe having his Spanish Imperials 25% loss (1300 men)
give my French(50% loss (6500 men) a good thrashing. He managed to skillfully isolate my Swiss from the rest of the army and crushed them!
