Last weekend I was afraid I couldn't play this game because my wife had to babysit and I had to accompany here. But I installed the game there and in the end it was I who was sitting with two kids on my knees and both kids were fascinated by the game. The oldest, 8 years old, insisted of playing the game against me and as he wanted to defend his country the only option was to play the Low Countries scenario as a hot seat game. Also a first for my as I only have played campaigns. I explained how the game was played but on a few questions of him I didn't have an answer. So I will post it here:

I explained that below the unit there was a green arrow, indicating that the unit can move, and a red crosshair, indicating it can attack. When it was raining the planes only have a green arrow because they cannot attack. My Ju 52 was transporting a para unit. "Why don't you fight with that plane?", he asked. Because it is only for transport not for attacking. "Why does it have the red crosshair, if it can't attack?"

You mean during rain, when another planes correctly do not have the attack indicator, the JU52 transporting your para troopers still displays it? My guess would be that it's the case because the game still counts the unit inside as infantry and not as a plane and infantry can attack in bad weather. Obviously it's just a more or less educated guess, but that's the only explanation i can come up with.

Edit: In case anyone read my first post before i changed it .. i totally misunderstood the question the first time so forget what i wrote in the first incarnation of the answer asap. :)

Thanks, Tarrak. But the infantry in the air transport can't attack in the air nor in the turn it is dropped or disembarked. So I think the kid was right wondering about the red crosshair.

Yeah the red crosshair should be not there ion the case you describe but i guess no one really bothered to much with it. You need to keep in mind that the red crosshair doesn't check for all conditions for a possible attack anyway. For example on a map with no ground units a bomber that can only attack ground units, like a He 111 for example, would still show the red crosshair too, despite the fact it can't really attack anything due to lack of targets. Basically the crosshair gives you a useful indication but it's not always 100% accurate.

Interesting story though. Kids often point out obvious flaws you simply do not notice, because your brain autocorrects it (I guess). My son is exactly the same in this regard :)
