Bug regarding easternmost hex column

Post by Peter Stauffenberg »

I noticed in my current game against Happycat that it's not possible to use air units against units, cities, mines, oil fields etc. that are located on the easternmost hexrow of the game.

One very important hex that's affected by this is the Ahwaz oil field in Persia. This oil field is on the easternmost hex column and I can't use tac bombers or fighters to bombard the unit in this hex. I can't even strat bomb the oil field if I wanted to do that.

Happycat had retreated a British fighter into the easternmost hex column in Iraq and I noticed I couldn't attack the fighter at it's airbase even though my fighter had range. So I had to send an armor unit to get there and destroy the fighter. My armor could only do 2-3 points of damage each turn so I would not be able to destroy it completely if Happycat had repaired the unit every turn. Luckily for me he didn't know about the inability for my fighter to attack it. I just placed my fighter so close to his fighter that the knew he would be destroyed by my fighter and armor combined. So he didn't bother to repair the fighter and lose the PP's.

The Ahwaz oil field is particularly important for the Axis because it produces 8 * 4 = 32 oil per turn for the Allies if the Axis can't take it quickly. So it would help a lot to bombard the hex with some air units before an Axis land unit attacks it to force it to retreat. But without any chance of air support then I have to use an armor unit to have a chance to force it to retreat.

I guess this is a minor bug in the CeaW code regarding the size of the map. The map size should be expanded one hex column eastwards for air units. Is that possible for fix for v1.07?

It is a bit tricky in fact, due to editor and scenario formats also.

It may be better to just fix the bug that prevents you attack cities on the eatern most hex?

If the bug can't be fixed then you can instead move Ahwaz one hex column to the left in the scenarios so it will be possible to bombard the oil field.
