BG as overlap options to move in flank contact

Post by domblas »

I'v seen a post on this topic but can't find it. Can u please help me ?

imagine i have two BG (A and B) facing one ennemy BG (C)
A is only as overlap and lined to B

A and B turn, please tell me what are the good options:

1. A is free to move or stay
2. A can pivot in the mouvement phase to prepare for a charge in the next turn, A loses its overlap position even if corners stays in contact. The point of contact will be the corner. the charge will be without move for the base in corner contact, other bases will press forward
3. A can move straight to stay as overlap but in edge to edge contact, next turn A will have the option to turn 90 ° and C may conform bases if possible.
4. A can pivot 90 ° and come in contact with the flank of C at manoeuvre phase

any other option i may have missed?

thx in advance

Hi,

I think you need to be clearer with your question to get some answers. It is not clear why A is turning for example or how it can be an overlap and then turn?

A sequence of events leading up to the situation and a diagram would be very helpful and will help in getting youa speedy answer.

Bruce.

i can't make draws or shemes, i tried once it was a shame

just i can precise BG B and C are in full frontal contact , none overlap the other. A is the BG in overlap lines up with B.

Ok, no problem on the diagrams! However a sequence of events by phase would be useful, for example (and I think one position situation that you might be asking about):
1. There are two BGs A&B, with A in front of B (a column if you will). An opposition BG C is in a position to charge B in the flank, but not A.
2. C charges B in the flank. Elements of B turn to face, B drops a cohesion level and the impact phase is resolved with no further changes.
3. In the manoeuvre phase B turns the remaining elements to face C.

Questions:
- As the rear corner of an element of A is in contact with a front corner of an element C, does it turn to face C in the maneouvre phase as well?
- Does it count as an overlap anyway?
- Can A get into an overlap position by turning 90 degrees? Does this require a CMT for undrilled infantry?
- Is there another way to get to an overlap position?

Thanks.

Thx very much for trying to help me

its nice

my problem is being dealt in the topic: Overlap/Fighting Questions
14 Bugle999 429

in the point 2, i can't understand why the free BG can't pivot on the first turn and charge on a later turn

Assuming it is as below (A & B facing up, enemy C facing down)

Code: Select all

    CCccCC
AAaaBBbbBB
The A's options are:

1) Do nothing and fight as an overlap.
2) Wheel sufficiently so that 1 element of A is entirely beyond the line between C and B, it won't fight as an overlap but will have a valid flank charge in its next move. You will need to move forward before the wheel, or do a double wheel, or a contraction with an advance including a wheel, so that your front corner hits the side edge instead of the front corner of C. Note a flank charge cannot include a wheel if it starts within 1 MU of the target.
3) Wheel as above but not getting an element entirely past the line. This is the same as above except it is not a flank charge so C won't drop a level, and A will conform back to its start position.
4) Advance so it is in edge to edge contact, It will still count as an overlap. There is a rule that allows it to turn 90 degrees, but IIRC that only applies if C is not in close combat, and it doesn't count as a charge (no impact phase)

I don't believe it can simply wheel 90 degrees to contact the flank of C as it starts within 1 MU.
