Very simple question

Post by moet »

I may be very sleepy, but I did not find how do I unselect a unit. I mean : I select a unit and decide not to move it, and want to select another one or just check the map till I finish my thought.

Undo. Or tap the unit again.

Yes (thanks), before moving, I can unselect the unit by taping again on it, and after having moved, I can undo my move. But what I can't do is to finish the move : I move the unit to adjacent area or to the end of its movement allowance, and then I can't not unselect my unit to select another one. Wherever I tap I got the "Tap an highlighted area..." message.

I think you've missed that you can only activate the units in one area in any given turn (its based on a common paper wargame mechanic called 'area impulse') but I'll just go over some other aspects incase it makes it clearer.

SO if you

.. finish the move : I move the unit to adjacent area or to the end of its movement allowance, and then I can't not unselect my unit to select another one. Wherever I tap I got the "Tap an highlighted area..." message.

you have a number of possibilities ..

1/ if there was another unit in the starting area you can simply select that second or third unit to move it.
2/ if you're happy with that move, press Commit. It will be the end of the turn.
3/ if you changed your mind and want to select units in a different area instead, press Undo.

It's bringing up the "Tap an highlighted area..." because you're effectively selecting another target location for the selected unit which is outside its movement capabilities. Even though YOU know you've finished the move, the game doesn't.

There are certain functionalities and routines we had to employ because of the nature of a touch screen. In this case the chance that touching the screen accidentaly (or deliberately by panning round to look elsewhere) could Undo or Commit a move is not ideal .. so we had to make it explicit. A player action. If the move is complete .. press Commit. If you've changed your mind, press Undo. Anything else and you're still thinking about it.

I'm sure thats as clear as mud but any other questions, just ask.

Very very clear, indeed ! But I really missed that "area impulse" concept. I did the tutorial but didn't get that (probably because of my poor English knowledge). But now I'm on the way to play BotB. Thanks a lot !
