Best 15mm Macedonian and Mongol figures?

Post by Agesilaus »

I am interested in people's views on a specific category of miniatures - 15mm Macedonians and Mongols. I have two quite old armies for both of these and I have decided to replace them.

I should add that I alrady have a few Xyston 15mm Peltasts adn theya re very good. If their Macedonian figures are comparable in quality then I will probably get them. But does anyone know if they are, or if there is somethign people feel are better?

As for Mongols, I have no idea and am open to suggestion. I am a mediocre painter, so something with plenty of sculpted detail to allow a paint and ink-wash technique would be ideal.

thnaks

Well I have just started to paint up (64 so far), Macedonians from Xyston, and am very happy with them, they look really nice painted up. Only comment about em is one of the pike poses was slightly off set at the join and needed a bit of filing to take the join out.

The cav look nice as well, but haven't hit em with paint yet, but the rider to horseback match is not very good with large gaps between the riders legs/buttocks.

But I am very happy with the look of them.

cheers

For Mongols, you can try Museum miniatures, i find them nice and they have
pictures. The other way is trying Old Gory15mm, i was told they were quite ok
and you got many poses for a cheap price.

Xyston are nice watch out for some packs which are enormous. I bought Theurophorai and had to get rid of them they were at least 20mm scale, almost like small 25mm.

Thanks for teh comments on the Xyston Macedonians. My other greek figures are AB which are also quite big anyway so it sounds like the Xyston figures will be nice.

Any more comments about Mongol figures? I have some old Chariot (now Gladiator) Mongol figures which are OK but fairly small. I am repalcing the army though so open to any suggestions that will paint up well.
