Special Elite units
My results on the battlefield haven't been unnoticed by Higher Command (HC) and awarded me 3 times with a special elite unit, the maximum I could get. But all three were Gebirgsjägers. I would not seem ungrateful to HC but I was hoping for a tank. If I disband that unit (or if it is killed in action) would HC gave me again a special elite unit later on?
I know I can reload to get a special elite unit or a different one but that is not the way I want to get it.

Re: Special Elite units
Yes, if you loose or disband the SE unit you will eventually get a replacement. Not necessarily in the next scenario.
What happens is that the game allows you to have a maximum number of SE units, 3 in the vanilla campaign.
At the beggining of every scenario the game checks how many SE units you have. If you have less than the maximum there's a chance that you will be awarded one. But it's a chance, not a certainty.
So, if you had 3 and lost or disbanded one, one SE slot will open.
If you lose or disband all 3 of them at the same time you can only receive 1 SE unit per scenario. So I suggest that you disband them one per scenario.
If you want to disband the unit you can do it during deployment and receive some prestige.
Or you can disband it and use the "all eqp" cheat to buy the one you want.

Re: Special Elite units
Thanks for answering it, hs1611. Earlier I disbanded the transport of one SE Gebirgsjäger in the deployment phase but I don't think I got some prestige for it. I shall disband one SE infantry and wait for the tank.
Re: Special Elite units
At pre-battle setup, save, disband, use cheat code, get tank. If no tank, then reload, try again.

Thanks, but I never use cheat codes. I like to keep such things random.mdh_slith wrote:At pre-battle setup, save, disband, use cheat code, get tank. If no tank, then reload, try again.

I don't think you get any prestige back from disbanding or downgrading transports. Just for full units.kanniethexen wrote:Earlier I disbanded the transport of one SE Gebirgsjäger in the deployment phase but I don't think I got some prestige for it.
Well, it looks to me like you got three SE Infantry and are considering to disband them to get Tanks instead. That's not random!!kanniethexen wrote:Thanks, but I never use cheat codes. Using the "all eqp" cheat to make sure that you get SE Tanks instead of SE Infantry is not that bad. You will have to pay prestige for the SE unit you buy.
Just make sure to check, before aplying the cheat, what regular tanks are available to buy in that scenario and buy the SE equivalent.
Of course, with that cheat you can buy a Tiger II for the invasion od Norway, but that would really be cheating...
Re: Special Elite units
Yup, disband at the beginning for prestige. You should always have one SE slot empty that way you keep getting more SE units you can farm for prestige which you will desperately need in later years. You should also sell all SE infantry. In later years SE tanks are necessary as you don't pay the prestige cap for them. You really want to fight 45 east with 8 experienced SE Tiger IIs...
Re: Special Elite units
There is only a 30% chance of receiving a SE unit.
After three turns you still can be without a SE unit.

You certainly mean scenarios not turns, don't you?Razz1 wrote:After three turns you still can be without a SE unit.

Thanks for letting me know that disbanding just the transport won't give me prestige back.hs1611 wrote:I don't think you get any prestige back from disbanding or downgrading transports. When I'm playing I am constantly curious of "what if"-situations. What happened was that my SE-unit was killed in action and I was wondering if I would get an opportunity to have a new one. You let me know did it does, so thanks again for that information and I know now that the chance of getting it is 30% every new battle. The randomness I was referring to was the fact IF I would get a new one. Because there is also a chance I will never get a new special elite unit. The chance is 0,7 raise to the number of following battles. And then again it is also possible that everytime I will get a Gebirgsjäger. If I would disband a special unit and never get a new one I will denie myself of an extra third unit. Well so be it.
Everyone is free to use cheat codes and I will not judge someone who is using it. It is just not my style of playing. Since 1987 I have played computer wargames (and Civilization), my first one was Battle for Normandy (SSI) on a Commodore 64 and never used a cheat code and I will probably never will use one. And that includes reloading to trigger certain results.

Yes, you are correct. After three scenarios you still may not receive a SE unit as there is only a 30% chance each scenario.

Re: Special Elite units
As an old Panzer General/new Panzer Corps player, I use my saves in a role-playing manner.
Just before the last unit moves onto the last VL to get the DV in Poland, Norway and the Low Countries... I save.
This represents the weeks of memoranda, staff studies, and pleading with my father-in-law in the High Command... to get my SE panzers.
NO panzer? Reload, lather, rinse, repeat... until panzer.
I do not reload if I lose a core, I do not use cheats to look at enemy before deployment. If I get smacked around at sea and land with understrength instead of overstrength, oh well. But I need my panzers.
Doesn't take that long to get the unit of your choice, and once those three are in your pocket... you never have to go through that again.
