Lutzen for klutzens

Post by Waldorf »

The first time I tried was a scouting mission of sorts, I had no idea how they were deployed or in what numbers. Turns out they are *awfully* strong on the right flank. We were mincemeat.

Second time I tried I decided to route everything via the town on the left flank, but we got bogged down in the narrow gap between the town and Windmill Hill and so were never able to bring our full weight to bear on their weaker side. We made a damn good fist of it though and finished up losing 61/55.

Does anyone have any tips for securing this one? I am very keen to avoid all the cavalry on the right, and suspect that pushing infantry up both sides of Windmill Hill with plenty of cavalry support on the left might be the way to crack it. Does anyone know if all the Catholic troops are in the field at the start of the scenario, or does Pappenheim actually arrive at some point and top the odds against you?

Still absolutely loving the game :)

I went with pushing almost entirely around the left. Attack with the best of the left wing cavalry and the Swedish brigade infantry around the hill - you should be able to slip a mounted unit or 2 around the Imperial cavalry right wing as well to get flank/rear attacks. Exploit success with the troops following.

Pappenheim arrives on the Imperial left during the battle - 2 lots of arrivals, first mounted then infantry.

Thanks for the reply. Nailed it on the third attempt by not allowing myself to get too congested around Windmill Hill but putting infantry up both sides. Still a nailbiting 62/51 victory, but onwards and upwards :).

Dang, foiled again on this one. My right flank crumbles fast.

Did ya'll stay away from the fortifications on the right side or try and take them?

Any more tips are appreciated.

TIA,
