how useful are panzer defence vehicles in kursk

hi dear members,

now i finaly arrived in kursk, main campaign.

on the map there is already an elephant (panzer defence vehicles - i'm shure this is not the right sentence) ...

in my hole core army i do not have a single panzerdefence vehicle. i can only buy 1 new unit; so what shall it be? are these necessary?

isnt it better to upgrade my tanks to tiger i and buy 1 additional?

An Elefant with 2 or 3 stars of experience is very effective against any Soviet tank (even IS2s).
They are vulnerable to air attack and have limited ammo so multiple infantry assaults can use up your ammo, which is annoying.

Keep them out of close terrain, watch your ammo and if possible keep some AA and artillery next to them and even an inexperienced Elefant can be great for blocking an attack.

If you haven't got any experienced AT units yet, there is an easy(ish) way to get experienced AT when Stug IV becomes available. Buy one or two Stug IV. Use them as artillery (they switch between Arty and SPAT) because they gain experience quickly as artillery. As soon as they get 2 or 3* experience, convert them to Elefants. Stug IV aren't very good SPAT but they can be used for finishing off damaged units.

i'mn already in moskow 43; but this far i can't buy stug iv. only stug iii.

at what point are stug iv available?
