rerolls and missle fire

Would someone point me to the rules section that states if quality rerolls apply when shooting?

Points aside, I wonder if 6 Superior archers such as Cretans would be better than 8 Average?

Not in a straight hits per shooting round contest, no. But there are other factors such as likelihood of passing a CT where the superiors are better than the average. There are also lots of situations where you can only get 3 double-ranked stands to fit in a shooting position and there the 6 superiors are better than the 8 average.

Note that average LF will benefit from rear support from average other troops and get a +1 on CTs. The Cretans only get rear support from superior troops. The +1 is usually better than the benefit of being superior, especially if you have any -1 dice modifiers from, e.g., 1HP2B. If you have other plusses, then superior is marginally better than yet another +1. If you have lots of other superior troops then it may be worth taking the Cretans, otherwise probably better to go for the 8 average.

On the other hand, rerolling a 1 on your evade VMD can make a big difference.

There are no re-rolls on VMD. (There were during beta).
