I have just read that the recently released Warhammer 40K, already received a patch 1.03 that addresses some units and scenarios balance issues.
I wonder why after 3 years, PzC still hadn't have serious attempt to correct units or scenarios balance issues.
- There are several inconsistencies in the units values in the database. In addition to specific unit issue, in general the stronger units are too cheap compared to the weaker ones.
- The Grand Campaign is still not very well balanced, prestige soft cap doesn't work so well, it makes GC West significantly harder, but for GC East you can accumulate plenty of pp by the end of 41 to be comfortable later on. For example even playing the whole campaign on Manstein, I start GC 42 East with over 40 000pp and I still have roughly that much at the end of 42 despite having several extra units in reserve in my core.
- some MP scenarios are not balanced. Monitoring the results of all the MP games played it would not be so hard to re-balance the scenarios a little.
I find many scenarios designed specifically for MP rather disappointing, in particular all using symmetrical maps play more or less the same way. So in the end I often play the scenarios designed for solo in MP, as they offer more diverse and historical actions IMHO. Unfortunately they are not balanced for MP, again it wouldn't be that hard to re-balance them for MP
With the help of the community, I think many balance issues could be corrected or reduced, leading to a more enjoyable game experience.

I assume you have played with deducter's mod, viewtopic.php?f=147&t=50184

Sure I did, I even humbly help him a little with some feedback.
Re: Panzer Corps balance
Seemed great the last time I played it... but then I also never played with a Soft Cap. Wouldn't ever want to, that's not Panzer General to me. That is why it's an optional rule though!

Unfortunately, that's not quite correct.Kerensky wrote:That is why it's an optional rule though
Using either 1.2 rules or 1.14 rules is optional, but there is no switch or adjustment for soft cap unless you adjust the Gamerules file.
Since there are many significant changes other than the soft cap between 1.14 and 1,2 rules, this does not count as optional in the way that weather, supply, reform units, fog of war or difficulty setting does.
If soft cap was clearly identified as existing, if its effects were plainly explained and optional, if its effects could be adjusted via the difficulty settings I think it would be better received. Which is a shame as if made easer to understand and made optional it could add an extra layer.
I think the idea of a total prestige limit (rather than an average) would meet all the requirements of those who want one, and could be made much clearer to understand, and a simple counter showing "soft cap starts", "current prestige total" would work. Allow for adjustable limits and a "use soft cap?" selection, and I'd agree it is optional. Bundle it with a choice between two very different rule sets and it doesn't look very optional to me.
On the positive side, learning how to edit the Gamerules file to disable the soft cap got me into modding, which added a whole new side to Panzer Corps.
Re: Panzer Corps balance
Obviously anyone can, or at least try, to tweak or mod the game to suit his personal taste. Though it won't help much for MP if you play with different peoples.
What I was thinking, was something like a "gold" edition, it is fairly common for successful game, to be re-packaged, and hopefully improved, to set a fresh common standard based on extensive players comments and feedback.
And how much I like the game, it kind of hurts to still have those same old issues from day one reducing my enjoyment every time I come back to play the game.
