Charging troops already in melee

Post by johnb60 »

My question is If MF charge LF in a overlap situation do the LF test for being charged, and the MF just join in the melee.

If you mean the LF are in combat as an overlap only, p64 says the skirmishers in overlap can evade, and unless in certain terrain must pass a CMT to avoid evading against non-skirmishers. Does that answer the question?

I think I should have been more specific, we have a group of LF fighting a melee some of which are in an overlap situation.

If the situation is what I think it is then the following from the FAQ should answer your question:

"5. SKIRMISHERS BEING CHARGED BY NON-SKIRMISHERS WHILE IN CLOSE COMBAT

Troops in close combat (other than only as an overlap) cannot evade from enemy charges. Therefore, skirmishers charged by non-skirmishers while in close combat (other than only as an overlap) do not have to take a CMT not to evade. They cannot evade. "

If your LF are in melee and some overlap the enemy BG, the overlap can only be charged in your opponent's impact phase but enemy can move into contact with you in its movement phase and fight in the melee phase. So the LF do not test for being charged and cannot evade as those events only occur in the impact phase.
Hope that helps.

Not so, BG's can move into a position where they are themselves in an overlap during the movement phase. In some specific situations overlappers can turn 90 degrees into a melee. However, in the case being discussed, the LF in overlap need to be charged in the impact phase. They cannot evade.
