Is 6mm popular
Are you basing your 6mm on 15mm bases? If so you can always play against 15mm armies, although it may look strange it will work.
If I could start from scratch with my Ancients I would seriously consider 6mm because IMO it looks stunning. The problem is 37 large boxes of painted 15mm lead is something of a commitment to 15mm.
There are definitley other people out ther using 6mm for ancients on FoG 15mm sized bases. A google for 6mm DBM should get you Arnesten's page which is inspirational. As to 6mm only tournaments I am not aware of any but I suspect that if you are basing on 15mm that using them in a 15mm comp would be fine.

Yes I am using 15mm bases, but like you said, it would be fighting Giants in a tournament.
I just wondered if there was any dedicated 6mm scale tournaments happening. I agree - most people will not change their armies if they have substantial amounts of lead in 15mm, which I guess do have a good balance of detail and an "army size" look to them.
I was just plumbing the depths really for interest in 6mm. I think my next army I will look at 15mm greeks or perhaps a Wallachian army with Vlad as the C In Chief!

It might be worth seeing if there was enough interest to add a 6mm tourney at one of the HMGS cons. I only keep 15s around to play in tournies.hammy wrote:I have played against 10mm armies in 15mm tournaments and would have no issues at all playing against 6mm either.
I got the same response from most people that so long as bases were the same size they weren't bothered. I'll likely bring 6mm Carthaginians and 15mm Islamics of some kind next Cold Wars.

I do a lot of 6mm stuff for WWII and Napoleonics. There is something cool about the look of the mass effect. I see nothing stopping a 6mm army based at the 15mm level.
Instead of using 3 figures to denote Medium Foot, use 3 strips of infantry.
If Baccus Ancients are as good as their Napoleonics, then Baccus would be a great way to go. I also have some Heroics & Ross Vikings that look great.

I agree, it is perfectly legal to play 6mm vs 15 so long as they are both based on 15mm scale (or both 28mm scale for that matter).
I just think it defeats the purpose of the modelling if there's only you fighting 6mm - it would be far more visually dramatic to have 6mm vs 6mm. I was just wondering if other people did 6mm so that there would be some cool mass effect battles taking place.
I will have to settle on 6mm vs 15mm I think - not ideal, but not really a problem either.

I was looking again at the Baccus site and after much havering (going back months) I now convinced that if one wishes to create a mass battle effect it has to be 6mm on 25mm bases.
I recently put "on hold" two Napoleonic armies in 2mm on 80mm-wide bases awaiting completion of the Horse, Foot and Guns wargames rules. The scale looks really impressive.
Given the popularity of 15mm I think I will end up putting together a 15mm Macedonian army (so that I can hope to enter competitions) and gradually build up a really good 6mm army based to 25mm.

newline designs has a 6mm range called rapier. the figures are the same size as baccus from their feet to the top of their heads. imho their detail is a bit better than baccus. however, they have thicker bases than baccus and would not mix easily unless there were shims under the baccus figures.Quintus wrote:Interesting as I am trying to decide on figure manufacturers and I am not satisfied with 15mm, but I really like the Baccus 6mm and am sorely tempted to go ahead with that based to 15mm. I really would like the chance to compete with such an army.
my 6mm use 15mm bases.

I am doing a 6mm army, the lead is ordered but has not arrived. I already have 2 15mm's and I am in the process of painitng a 10mm.
I have yet to do a 6mm army or for that matter see one in person (for ancients). If you have the time I say go for it. My attitude is to get one, build, and play it. If people like the look of it, more may join in the fun.

We played ancients 10mm vs a 15mm army at a convention, both based as 15s, which worked fine and didn't look too bad. Painting up two opposing armies in 10mm or 6mm would get you fighting quickly.
I recently painted a 10mm 30YW army, and found they paint easily and are more sturdy than 6mm. For troops with leather 'web gear', I prime white, wash with brown ink, leave the wash for web gear, boots and as a base for a quick drybrush skintone, and dab on the colors for the remaining bits. It goes remarkably quickly and looks good.

I'm currently painting a 10mm Principate Roman army using the nifty Steve Barber Romans and, and will follow that with an opposing army of 10mm Steve Barber Germans. Very nice figs........but, as has been mentioned or hinted by others, not sure how I feel about laying out a 10mm (or 6mm) army, whilst opposed to some 15mm behemoths at a local or national tourney..............I can hear it now........'Henry, come over here and look at the army of Lilliputians!' I know its been done before, and I am sure my opponents would not mind........it would be my own mental hurdle to overcome. Also, I have 6mm Rapier Miniatures (gorgeous little buggers), to field a Late Republican Roman, Macedonian, Greek, Persian and Indian army. I love the smaller scales personall, even though I have alwasy fancied myself a painter first!
