Commander: The Great War not starting

Hello everyone,

I seem to be having a problem with Commander: The Great War. I've played the game fine for about a week, but now the game won't start when I click 'Play Commander: The Great War' on the splash screen. The cursor does the 'busy' thing for a few seconds, and then nothing.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, but it still doesn't work. Could I have deleted something important by accident while uninstalling another program? What could be the problem?

I'm sorry to hear you are having problems with your game.
Can you post your ctgw.log file?

How to get the ctgw.log file:

If you ever get an error or crash, please attach the ctgw.log file to your report, this will help us identify the problem. The logs are in your Documents, so the default is "My Documents\My Games\Commander The Great War"

IMPORTANT: This log is overwritten every time you start the game. Please make a copy of the log after any crash/bug you want to report before reloading the game.

i have the same problem, i have taken close look to the My Documents\My Games\Commander The Great War\ctgw.log File.
But, as far as i can see, there is no new entry. I reinstalled game, just dont starts, i deleted config, tested different configs, e.g. windowed. nothing changed.

Ah yes, i had a download from slitherine, then as steam had it i registered it there, deinstalled old download. Later installed the steam version.

What version of the game are you trying to play? 1.6.0 or 1.5.2? If the latter, please install 1.6.0 and post here again.

1.6, the log is from older version, but the time isnt right too, its an old log entry, they are no newer entrys, as there should be some.

Please try the following:
Unistall the game and install the game in a different folder. Install in a folder different than C:\Program Files (x86)\....
In some system this might cause conflicts.

Could it be a problem with Steam? I'm no expert, noticed other Steam users have had problems too...

it was installed in v:\steam\...
it is now installed in d:\steamlibrary\...

it was never on C:\Program Files (x86)\....

okay, i tried to not start launcher first, but start ctgw_steam_d3d directly. Got following error : openal32.dll is missing
so found in some baldurs gate forum a link to install missing dll.
did that.
For now it seems to be working fine, hope it will stay this which upcomming (if any) newer patch.

Happy to know that you have fixed the issue.
You can always reinstall OpenAL. You'll find it in:
....\Steam\steamapps\common\Commander The Great War\_CommonRedist\OpenAL\2.0.7.0
But if the issue is fixed now, I wouldn't touch it.
