Designer's notes:
A milestone: Scenario # 50!
Conceived after the release of Pike&Shot, with its own Ravenna offering, the scenario is a grand test of the versatility of the FoG engine as applied to early Renaissance warfare. As has become the norm, the combination of accessory units and map overlay works to create a flow of events that is respectful of historical patterns without the player being a mere spectator. The design is expansive, over 100 units, with particular focus on delivering the experience of an assault on a fortified position bristling with firearms, which FoG cannot normally simulate, but that previous designs for Mohacs 1526 and Cerignola 1503 have shown possible. I still believe that the FoG engine, with the proper design, gives a more fluid game play and a more immersive experience, and even a better historical feel, compared to Pike&Shot. Sources for the battle are wildly contrasting (and time-consuming to study), with numbers and starting positions very much in doubt. Since the scenario adheres to the events-based technique (that has matured well), the details were chosen to mesh with the following events flow:
1. Allied Cavalry charged out
2. Cavalry battle on both wings develops
3. Landsknechte spearhead french infantry assault in the middle
4. French mounted reinforcements overwhelm Allied cavalry
5. French cavalry on both wings closes in while the infantry battle reaches its climax.
