1690 shot/pike protection

Post by Switzer »

Hi

On looking at the rulebook to work out whether my french later louis xiv
infantry are protected i think it said..
If the medium infantry in the front rank are adjacent to a heavy infantry
unit (pike i imagine) then they are protected.
In this instance they are not as the formation consists of 3 muskets in the
front rand and 2 muskets and a pike in the middle in the rear
We assumed they are protected otherwise WTF is the point of the pike at all
Were we wrong and should they have been unprotected ?
Havent played with 1690 stuff before so its new to me

When it comes to impact the base of pike in the rear rank can move forward to the front rank, thus granting protection (and a POA) to the BG against mounted.

As Simon has stated. The paragraph explaining this in the rules is the 1st para on page 75.
