Swords & Scimitars tournament - main thread/post resultshere
Competitors,
Thank you for joining the Swords and Scimitars tournament. If you have not joined, this tournament is not full and is accepting four more players. Rules are below.
Important dates:
- Nov. 24: pool stage begins (arrange your own matches via thread and PM)
- Dec. 13: players who have not completed at least 2/8 matches subject to review and possible replacement by player from reserve
- Jan. 3: pool stage ends (you have 6 weeks to complete 4 mirror matches; if all are complete before this date, we will begin quarter-finals earlier)
- Jan. 4: quarter-finals begin
- Jan. 18: semi-finals begin
- Feb. 2: finals begin
Structure of tournament:
- There are 4 pools of 5 players each
- Each player will be assigned a random army from a select list of Swords and Scimitars armies
- You will play each player in your pool once in a mirror match, one with your drawn army, one with your opponent's drawn army
- 3 pts awarded for win, 1 pt awarded for draw of any sort (e.g. if you win both games in your mirror match, you recieve 6 pts)
- Top 2 players in each pool advance to quarter-finals
- Quarter-finals/semi-finals/finals all decided by mirror match where combined scores decide winner on percentage (e.g. if player A's combined BPs for both matches is 93/100 (93%) and player B's is 70/76 (92.1%), player B is victorious)
- Games not completed by deadlines are subject to adjudication
Arranging matches:
- Players are responsible for arranging matches
- Post challenge in this thread AND PM to ensure your opponent saw it
- It is advised to begin at least 2 mirror matches against 2 opponents immediately to ensure players have head start on pool stage deadline
Rules of games:
- Armies will consist of 500 pts
- You may customize your army before each match
- Fog of war and double moves will be used
- Digital League rules on army size/composition do not apply
Posting results:
- Winners of each individual match are responsible for posting result in this thread; I will periodically update the results table
- Please use this format:
Pool A result:
Romanos (Byzantines) 30/45 defeats Arslan (Seljuks) 50/50

Re: Swords & Scimitars tournament - main thread/post results
ok stupid question how do you determine map
last time I did a tournament the GM/moderator could issue the challenges and that so far back no one probally remembers the original game.

Re: Swords & Scimitars tournament - main thread/post results
Unlike another convener Jonathan hasnt stipulated what level of terrain so when you issue your challenge as far as i can tell your free to set it yourself to any of the 5 levels, but you can only pick the map if you win the initiative when the game is accepted and started with your opponent.tony craven wrote:ok stupid question how do you determine map

And the only stupid question is the one that isnt asked mate

Re: Swords & Scimitars tournament - main thread/post results
Thats correct, there are no stipulations regarding what map terrain you can select.
The logic here is that because its a mirror match, no matter what horrifically unfair strategy you decide to use with regards to terrain/army composition, your opponent can use it right back anyways.

Pool A
PeterGuest (Armenians) 22/40 defeats Dave-r (Georgians) 31/31.
A good game where the Armenian infantry managed to hold firm in the face of massed Georgian mounted bowmen. Thanks for the game!
