Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon manual 'errata' [text]

Post by heissburg »

Proofreading of the manual resulted in the discovery of the potential issues listed below. These are basically just the things that jumped at me, so if anyone detects more or cares to better advise go right ahead.

Note: page numbers are those of the manual itself, not necessarily the PDF's page count.

[Page iii]

1.1, Lowercase 'm' in Minimum (System Requirements)

[Page 2]

1.3, First sentence, lack of apostrophe in 'games'; should be "or the Uninstall shortcut in the game's Windows START menu folder".

On the following sentence, defective construction, Steam mention; should best be phrased "Uninstall the Steam version via the Steam client."

[Page 4]

2.1, Last sentence, undue 'along' repetition; should best be phrased "You will also get to bring your army into the next battle along with all of its eperience and equipment too."

2.2, First sentence, undue presence of "in"; should best be phrased "Clicking on ‘Scenarios’ will allow you to play a single battle against the AI."

[page 8]

3.3, Last sentence, undue use of "mini map"; should be "minimap", as repeatedly used in the following page for coherence.

[page 9]

On the fourth line, "in different colours on the mini map"; again "minimap" should be used, and stick to it as standard.

Lower on the page, subordinated to the "Strategic Map" bullet point, "This is zoomed in are far as possible"; should evidently be "as far as possible".

Near the bottom of the page, in the last sentence, "Each unit as a maximum strength"; should evidently be "has a maximum".

[Page 10]

Third line from the top, "The melee weapon will be stronger and the units weapon of choice"; "units" lacks the apostrophe, should be "unit's".

Lower, in the paragraph about Experience, "As you gain more experience your unit will gain a bonus". Here the use of 'you' is not very adequate, should be "As it gains more experience your unit will gain a bonus".

[Page 13]

4.7, First sentence. "Swamps are large wetland regions such as marshes and bogs, and is difficult to move through."; plural should be consistently employed, not singular, so "marshes and bogs, and are (...)".

[Page 16]

First line. Suggestion for precision; addition of "it". The sense is not "all the hexes that you can move to that turn." but all the hexes that you can move _it_ to that turn. Similar case happens on the fourth line.

Third line. Undue use of uppercase "(These only occur if". Should be "these" with lowercase 't'.

[Page 17]

5.2, Fifth line. Undue use of plural. "A person can access more difficult terrain than any machine, and are able to enter". Should be "and is able to enter".

5.3, Suggestion for cascading adjustment. "A walker generally has around twice the defensive strength of an infantry unit, and is quite fast as well. However, it is more limited in where it's allowed to go, and also more costly than infantry."

5.4, Undue use of singular. "and the ability to use some of its movement points," should be "and the ability to use some of their movement points,"

[Page 18]

5.7, Third line. Surplus 'the'. Should just be "having twice the".

6.1, Fifth line. Undue use of plural. Should be "and any movement away from his beliefs is seen as heresy."

[Page 19]

First line. Heresy! 'emperor' written without a capital 'E'!

[Page 22]

Third line of the final paragraph in the page (or 4th line from the bottom if you prefer). Lack of apostrophe in possessive case, plural. Should be "a video of all of your opponents' moves"

[Page 23]

First line. Undue use of plural. Should be "If your opponent has not played his/her turn".

Updating the manuals is pretty difficult as they are already printed. Even changing the pdf's is very hard because of the layout so if we were going to change them we'd need some significant changes to justify the time it would take. Its great to let us know of any issues you spot but I can't promise they will get fixed as it requires going to an external agency who deal with manual layout.

lol, the whole manual should be re-done, because it's usless piece of digital paper. Half of the forum is about game mechanic questions, if it isn't a reason for "significant changes to justify the time it would take".... :?

I would have loved to see a manual that explains more in depths the various aspects of the game.

No need for fancy layout :)

Just make an online manual. No need for a printed version imo.
