Hi,
the simple & complex move table on p. 42 in ther rulebook differs battle troope betwenn drilled, undrilled cavalry and other undrilled.
The complex move test table on p. 43 shows a 7 to score for passing the the test für drilled troops an an 8 for other undrilled troops.
What does undrilled cavalry need to score to pass the test? 7 or 8?

It is confusing with the words "other undrilled" having two different meanings in the same table. Surprising it wasn't picked up in beta testing.hammy wrote:7 for drilled troops and skirmishers, 8 for other undrilled troops
or put another way 8 for undrilled non skirmishers.
Best change the number needed section to "undrilled except skirmishers" in future editions of the book or issues of the reference sheets.

The two "other"s aren't in the same table or even on the same page! (in the main rules).lawrenceg wrote:bigben666 wrote:Hi,

The reason this "ambiguity" wasn't raised in beta testing is that no such ambiguity in fact exists.Surprising it wasn't picked up in beta testing
In normal English you would expect the adjective "Other" to apply to those other than the immediately aforemention noun. Which it does in both cases.
You may say that ambiguity must exist otherwise the original query would not have arisen. However, the fact that someone somewhere can misunderstand a rule does not necessarily indicate that the wording needs changing.
One problem with changing the wording in a future edition (to mean the same thing as it does now) is that many people will assume that the change in wording must mean a change to the rules and the whole cycle of "gnostic" reading of arcane significance into the exact wording of the rules starts again.

I agree, but not all wargamers speak normal English. I did not say it was ambiguous, just confusing. It confused Bigben666 and may confuse others.rbodleyscott wrote:
