Stuck at Vyazma
Well, I thought I was doing okay. I have a significant air fleet, 7 stukas, 2 Bf-100s, 5 Bf-109s, 5 infantry, 6 armored and 8 artillery (33? That's sounds about right), and I am just being chewed up in the Vyazma scenario. The constant rain grounds my air fleet. I tried to the pincer attack, but that merely split my force and by turn 8 they were ground up. I tried a southern attack in force, but around turn 8 or 9 the Soviets were attacking en masse in the north and center and had stopped my southern approach. I just don't have an idea: it seems with each turn more and more Soviet forces appear and the Germans cannot add to their force.
Re: Stuck at Vyazma
Your massive reliance on air force is your weakness. If bad weather happens, which will happen in Russia at some point, a big part of your forces are rendered useless. There is a lot of info about Vyazma posted on the boards here already. Try the search function and it will give your some information but i think with the amount of air force in your core you are bound to run into troubles.
P.S: I moved this thread into the main forum where it catches more attention then in the quite deserted AAR forum.

Re: Stuck at Vyazma
As Tarrak pointed out: Too much aircraft. I encountered no scenario in which weather is that important. If it turns out very bad, you won't be able to achieve a DV no matter how well you may play. A MV is relatively easy to get. (Never played this one on Guderian, but I guess you need a miracle to obtain a DV...)
But generally it is possible to win decisively. You have to hurry. Keep your trucks close to roads. Some losses are unavoidable in this scenario. Speed has priority.
Unfortunately it is not possible to load replay files as an attachment.
(Why do I save all my replays, if I can't share them?
)
My recommendation - as always -: Have a look at deducter's videos. He was playing his own mod (even more difficult), but it is interesting anyway. And remember: You have Rudel (and the other heroes. Deducter didn't have them at that time), which makes it a lot easier for you. Here is deducter's vyzma video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpwOzppUq4Q
Good luck!
P.S. Thanks, Tarrak!
This attempt on Vyazma was a last minute DV. But who cares...
I played on "General" level - as most of the time - with a bit more "historical" core.

Just zip your replay file and then you can attached it here without problems.

Re: Stuck at Vyazma
My Vyazma strategy is to aim for MV, but be prepared to have a go at DV if you get lucky with the weather.
I usually take Rudel and an escort fighter as they can be worth it even if you only have a few turns of clear weather, and maybe another bomber and escort if you like air attacks. An 88 is pretty useful if you get frustrated by constant fine-weather air attacks on your own units as in rain it can switch to tank busting.
Me and paratroops usually isn't a good mix, but I suspect they could be useful for clearing the way and they can fly and drop in bad weather. But please don't blame me if five soviet fighters swoop on the transports or if the paras land in the middle of a dozen T34s.
The other good advice (which I never take) is to check the tables of terrain effects so you understand how the mud will affect your movement stats - maybe it's worthwhile getting half tracks rather than trucks, or to leave your petrol-hungry kradschutzen behind.
