Hi
Trying to set up a Powick Bridge Scenario and noticed the following:
Hedges do not effect the LOS?
Hedges do not effect movement?
LOS, Movement and Hedges

Correct. They do of course provide cover and protection against cavalry.
Although hedges don't directly affect movement, Enclosures tiles do affect mounted movement.

Hi Richard
During the ECW there are numerous accounts of having to tear down hedges to allow horse to move through. These were major obstacles to both movement and LOS.

That's it, we need a new class of cavaliers with hedgerow clipping steel toothed plows slung in front of the horses. The Rhino-cavaliersGuyFawcett wrote:Hi Richard

True, but they didn't usually block LOS completely and they were usually passable eventually.GuyFawcett wrote:Hi Richard

We may have been a bit lenient in the interest of progressing the game. You may notice that almost everything in the game is in fact telescoped to keep things moving. Who wants to play a game of troops shooting back and forth across a hedge for several hours with no noticeable effect as happened quite often in ECW battles? (Clearly they didn't block LOS completely, or this would not have been possible). Similarly we have missed out many of the other (boring) delays that occur in real warfare such as rallying after charges, pursuits and evades, waiting for orders to arrive, waiting for ammunition resupply (after blowing it all on pointlessly shooting back and forth across a hedge for several hours with no noticeable effect) etc. etc. Likewise we have avoided very short move distances and very short shooting ranges.
All in the interests of an enjoyable and fast moving historical game rather than a strict simulation. All the above could be modded in if strict simulation is what you are looking for.
Hedges do have a significant effect in game, however, if a player tries to attack across them with cavalry (when they are defended) or shoot across them. My Parliamentarians love hiding amongst the hedges, as those who have played against them can testify.
