Germany can't win in m-player (help)

Post by hoombala »

I play with my friend via TCP/IP and am Germany. Poland goes fine, as does Holland. Then the problems start. He transports all land units from Britain, to the continent and guards all ports w/ btlshps (preventing a sea lion invasion of britain). By the time I am hitting france he has all french units and a french leader, reinforced with british corps, mech inf and tank. Pretty soon there is a british leader and a second french tank in play. I eventually grind down Paris by late 41, but by then Russia is massive and my troops are exhausted and few.... Game over :( Any ideas would be appreciated. We have thought about making house rules against british transports, but am looking for other suggestions. Thanx

I don't have a coherent strategy but I do have a suggestion on what you could do to find one. You could play hotseat and try out different German strategies against that tactic.

I would build up my U-boat force and airforce to attack and destroy or run off the British navy and airforce. U-boats and air are also very highly effective in sinking transports. I'd also try to encircle and destroy the BEF in France. With the entire British army in France, that means the Med is wide open. I'd use my Italian allies to capture Egypt and the Suez Canal and the oil fields in Iraq and Iran. I'd make the British pay dearly for their total commitment to France.

A strong U-boat force with research focused in that area is your friend. With a weaken UK you might be able to invade Britian, but if not you should be able to at least prevent the UK/USA from establishing a beachhead in France. Also, you should now own all of North Africa, Suez Canal and the oil fields in the Middle East.

I'd do as much damage in Russia as I could and if I couldn't take out Moscow and Perm, hold on to May 1945, in which case you get a victory because you still have Paris.

Also, don't forget to build a leader for your forces invading France. That helps greatly.

...You can easily kill more British troops than they can replace. Easier to take them out in France than across the channel as a matter of fact. Their production is pitiful in the beginning of the game. Costly air battles and attacking their fleets in addition will soon have their economy bankrupt.

Hoombala I agree for multi-players the German's have a very difficult time just surviving to 1945. Most of the games I've witnessed the allied player uses a similar strategy that my friends and I have dubbed the Allied Dogpile. Although I've not seen the French last into 1941. It sounds to me like you're just not attacking France fast enough.
The key to taking France out when the Allies use this strategy is to attack west just as quickly as you can. In my experience it takes the Allies till end of December to have all of his units in place. So to me its a race to get into France before they get this set up. Ignore Denmark and attack Holland in turn two if the Pols have fallen, turn 3 at the latest with infantry. Then transfer as much of your army as you can as soon as the Pols fall to continue your attack into Belgium. You should place a leader as soon as you can build one as well. If you attack west quickly you should be able to take Paris by June or July. Also be aware that he could pull back his Brits to Cherborg, Bordeaux, Brest as more of a delay. Cherborg and Brest can be a real pain if he uses his fleet to bombard your positions.

Has anyone tried attacking the low countries and France first and then going through Poland in preparation for facing the Russians? I am new to the game.
