Ge and Ji classifications

In an effort to stop hijacking another thread and to continue the discussion...

Background:

While many weapons in European history are easy to classify due to their familiarity in Western culture, it does leave some of us Asiaphiles with a bit of problem trying to shoehorn some of the more esoteric (to western history), but mainstream asian weapons, into game mechanics more designed for western history.

The Ge is an axe like weapon on various lengths of shaft and the Ji is essentially an evolution of the Ge that adds a spear point to the Ge.

Seems to mean that the only function for mounted is to use a "long pointy stick". Either spear or lance - and I was trying for other interpretations.

hmm... I agree.. Lance I don't think fits well since it forces the unit to charge more and from what I've read chinese cav preferred to soften up targets with missile fire first, so that left me using Light Spear. I basically gave Ji cav units Light Spear/Swordsmen, which I think gives a decent feel.
