Cannot Start Game

Post by DemonKhan »

I just downloaded the game and disabled my Antivirus before I D/Led it. After I installed it and tried to start it with either the Shortcut on the desktop or in my start menu I get the following error:

Windows cannot find 'C:/Program Files (x86)Slitherine\Buzz Aldrin's Space Program Manager\autorun.exe' Make sure you typed the name correctly and try again

Hopefully you can help me solve my issue

Please try the following:
Open the folder where the game was installed and locate a file named SPM-Windows.exe.
Please run it. Are you able to start the game?

It can be an issue with Windows permissions or an interference of your Internet security programs (anti-virus, firewall. etc.).
Could you please check if with them disable you still experience the same issue?

I added SPM to Windows defender allowed programs and disabled my firewall and A/V and still get the same 2 messages whenever I try to either run the program using the desktop icon or TrueUpdate

Something is blocking the launcher. What Windows version you have?

Uninstall the game and reinstall it in a different folder than C:\ Program Files(x86)\.

There will be no consequences. The reason why I'm suggesting this is that on some Windows configurations, there might be a problem when certain applications, like games, starting from C:\Program Files(x86).
You can install it, for example, in C:\Games.

Will that let me start it from the desktop and still also create a folder in the Start menu? I will lose my saved game files also correct? Or is there a way around that?

Yes.

It shouldn't affect your saved games. But you can backup before uninstalling the game.
You can find them at:
C:\Users\YOUR_ACCOUNT_USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\MatrixGames\BASPM

Re: Cannot Start Game (Problem Solved)

Thank you VPaulus for all of your help. I uninstalled the game and re-installed it to C:\Games like you said. As soon as it finished installing I tried the TrueUpdate client and successfully downloaded and installed the 1.1 update. The game also runs fine from the desktop icon now. My saved games were all there like you said they would be but I started a new GSA campaign anyway to see what some of the changes were like. Thanks again for all of your help :D
