Depicting Alexander/Macedonian Generals

Post by j2klbs »

Does anyone have ideas on how I might model my Xyston Alexander/Macedonian generals? I know they have the mounted generals pack, but it seems to me that alone would not allow people to readily recognize the base as a general.

Medieval armies frequently have banners, heralds, unique coat-of-arms, etc. to easily distinguish the general. Is there something I can do that would similarly make the Alexander generals easily recognizable?

The only idea I currently have is to have the base only have one mounted figure, the general, and then flank him with a couple dismounted companions.

Any comments/suggestions/ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Black Horse?

Post by discok3 »

Hello there,
Alexanders' horse,Beucephalus(?),was black so maybe his is the only black horse in the army...furthermore if you put him on a piece of cork(to look like a rock) and as a result raised him higher on his stand I reckon that would stand out enough to indicate he was your general?
If you do try this and it works for you perhaps you could post the pic

I tend to make the commanders' horses distinctive and they ride the only white and black steeds in the army. Army commanders who are kings, such as Pyrrhus and Alexander, can be given purple cloaks.

The Alexander figure in the above photograph is particularly good as it shows him bareheaded which is another distinction.

Another trick is to find a figure or personality from a completely different range of figure-makers.
