routing during impact phase

Post by Seldon »

Hi,
so I know that routs and pursuit usually happen on the JAP, however when a BG routs as a result of a charge ( for example charged on the flank while already disrupted ) the rout happens immediately on the impact phase.

What happens then with units that are already in combat with the unit that will now be routing, do they also chase them immediately or do they wait till JAP ? If the chase them in impact phase and contact new enemies, is that impact combat fought immediately ?

This came out the other day and we were not sure how to resolve it.
thanks

Page 101 - " An unbroken battle group, all of whose close combat opponents ... have broken and routed this phase ...". Every group in combat with the routers that meet this criteria will pursue this phase, and again in the JAP. The resulting impact on fresh units is resolved as per page 108 - in the next Impact Phase.

Yes I saw that but my concern is:

you pursue, you contact enemies, and you are not supposed to fight until the next impact phase ? When routs happen in melee phase I am fine, but when they happen in impact phase then troops would be in contact during mele without fighting. Is this ok ? Would this still cancel possible enemy overlaps even though they are not fighting ?

Since all this is happening in impact phase maybe the new round of impact shoud be fought immediately ?

thanks

If the unit is Routing and the pursuing units catch it, it's not an Impact, but just a contact while Pursuing. You remove one stand from the Routed unit and the it Routes normally in the JAP. If the pursuing units catch it again, remove a stand. Rinse and repeat

yes but the problem is the enemy routs in impact, you chase them and you contact fresh enemies. do you fight right away in this same impact or do you wait till next impact hence spending one full melee phase without fighting but in combat.

If the fresh enemy you are contacting are going to fight melee against other troops then strange situations could happen where troops that were in overlap will no longer be in overlap yet they will not fight since they have to wait until the "next impact phase"

so the original point still stands, if you are chasing enemies in impact and you contact fresh enemies, do you fight them in this impact or you still have to wait until the next impact phase

So I re read page 108 as per Draka's answer and if the contact is in the impact phase they fight immediateley so there is no problem.

I love these rules 90% of situations are always covered. My congrats to the playtesting team, you have done a great job !!
