We??™re not sure we??™re doing Slitherine enough favors by calling this a more serious look at ancient Roman combat than Rome: Total War, but that??™s the single best way to describe this turn-based strategy game. This niche wargame forces wannabe Caesars into more challenging leadership roles than other similar titles because of its robust planning phase, which acutely depicts the challenges of prepping an army for battle without the speedy response RTS fans may be accustomed to.
Uhh, turn-based?

WTF are they smoking? :)

Well, they did say they prefered it over RTW, so they must have at least looked at it...

After all, to make a statement like that requires back up, as RTW is made by a big company, and Slitherine is tiny and relativly unknown. It takes a lot more convincing to say a game by a small developer is good than it does to make the same claim for a big developer.

Look at the hype for Black and white, after all.

Sum1, everything you say is true, and I wouldn't dispute any of that.

I was just remarking on what seemed to me an amazingly foolish editorial error.

Im thinking that is probably exactly what it was. Because if you look at other articles, they are reluctant to include anything resembling an RTS into the Wargame HoF, so to speak. Therefore, the editor saw it, assumed it was a mistake, and changed it.

I'm sure you are correct, my friend.

RTS is an odd genre. There are so many annoyingly mindless ones out there.

I didn't play Dune, which started the craze, but I did play the first Command & Conquer. Now, don't sneer. I know the franchise has gone to crap these days, but the first two games were actually very good.

I also played the original Homeworld, which I would vote as my all-time favorite RTS. It's just a shame the campaign was so short.

But, there are real time wargames.

As for LA. I don't know how I would set it into a category.
Plato was right.
