Are FoGR lists being revised?

Post by khurasan_miniatures »

Sorry but I've sort of lost the trail on the development of the game, and am curious as to whether the FoGR lists are being revised.

I ask because I am having the Early Spanish Imperial army sculpted at the moment in 15mm scale, for the last phase of the army, from about the Armada on. The infantry are done, the cavalry underway. I have been advised by Daniel S, a European professor of military history, and he has provided solid foundations for his research, many in sources not available in English.

One piece of advice was that the "Spanish" cavalry (excluding German Reiter hires) was made up in the very late 16th C of lancers, pistoleers, and arquebusiers. The pistoleers, "Corazas," were about a third to a half of the most heavily armoured mounted, but they do no exist in the list. (Again, this is not including the Reiters, or "herreruelos" as the Spanish called them.)

I was surprised to see in the list that these are not there at all, and since FoGR is a very popular set for renaissance gaming, a bit concerned as well. So I thought I'd ask to see if there were a list revision underway. Thanks.

There are no plans that I am aware of to revise the lists at present.

Of course, as ever, if anyone so wishes they could pop the information and suggestions into the Player Designed Lists forum - people often like that :D

That doesn't help players with a convention though... which I feel is where most players aim. Unless it was officially accepted, the list wouldn't be able to be used in a con.

Any con organiser could use it should they so wish - up to them what they do. A number of GB cons are using "unofficial" list changes - including Richard's ...

I am collecting some of the same period, and may supplement with your figures. I have followed the discussion on the TMP with interest. The simple solution is to find the list that most approximates what you think the army should be. This could be Later Spanish or Early Imperial Austrian. The Austrians have most of the troops you need: Kuirassiers, Gendarmes with heavy lance, tercios, musketeer & arquebusier companies, Spanish light horse, Italians, etc. And I am not suggesting using an unrelated list (Danes for example). The lists I mentioned had much the same troops, and were all Hapsburgs after all.
