To have a simple campaign rule that gives a "narrative feeling" to skirmishes online i would suggest wo ways to portrait it:
1- start with a small/narrow open battle, the winner will then choose between a flank march or a reinforce (enemy) ... if the former winner will win again he will then choose attack skirmish ... if the attacker wins then campaign is closed with major victory. Anyway in the second battle (flank march or reinforce) the former loser wins then the next battle will be again an open battle ... and so on .... if you give a given number of battles (say 5) in a campaign you can even end it with a marginal victory (the winner will be the one most inside enemy territory, saying that open battle is a sort of "neutral" field)
You might increase size of battle each battle
2- start with a small/narrow battle and choose a campaign of 6 or 8 battles, skirmishes will be created once per player and every new skirmish will become bigger than the former, then apply points as follow: small 1 pt.; medium 2 pts.; large 3 pts; very large 4 pts. The campaign will end with a marginal victory at the end of the 6 or 8 battles with winner the player with most points...or the campaign will end with a total victory with a result of 6 to 0 (small, medium, large won ina row)
hope you like ideas
