Minor glitch?
Ahem ... just had one of my batteries inflict zero casualties on a Swedish tercio at point-blank range (ie adjacent) in front of it - that can't be right, can it?

Artillery has a swingier RNG than normal musketry.

Re: Minor glitch?
Artillery always has a damage range of 0-X amount but even if the artillery doesn't do any damage it still inflicts the -1 on cohesion tests against the unit it fired at.
Re: Minor glitch?
Hmmm ... I would say that point blank range any artillery must have been able to inflict SOME serious damage surely.

Actually there is at least one well documented account during the Napoleonic Wars (Italian Campaign) when a battery fired at point blank range and completely whiffed. Barrels were too elevated. I think it happened at Rivoli.
And these guns in this period are far less sophisticated than the Napoleonic era.

Guess those gunners were about to change sides or something !

I'll try to get a citation -- it was an interesting incident.
Re: Minor glitch?
I've seen artillery cause casualties well into double figures at long and medium range then drop to zero or near zero at close (musket and less) range so often I've found myself wondering not only if the gunners forgot to bring any hail shot with them but if they also aren't bright enough to scrounge musket balls from the foot or even just gather up a few hatfulls of pebbles.
Regimental guns, on the other hand, are decidedly nasty.
