MP army lists and other topics

Post by moncholee »

I am having great fun with MP battles, and I would like to give some suggestions to make this side of Pike and Shot even better:

- When creating a skirmish game the creator has to set the two opposing armies that will engage in battle, thus negating the other player the freedom of choosing which army he would like to use. I think it would be great to have the possibility of choosing your own army and let the other player play with his army of choice, as long as it is a historical or contemporary enemy. I could create a battle where I would use a Spanish Army and the opponent could play with swedes, french, protestant germans... as he pleased. Even going further... what about 30YW armies against ECW or even Italian Wars ones?

- Could we have the possibility of saving repetitions of battles?

- I knew that I had lost one battle before I saw my opponent´s turn by reading his chat message, as they are shown before the actual action. Could they be displayed after the other players´s turn replay in order to avoid spoilers? In this battle I was loosing and the outcome was inevitable, but imagine a very close battle where both players have their options.

Regards,

Javier.

These are all good ideas, but all require engine changes. Will bring them up at next meeting with engine team.

Richard don't do this. This is historical game not a fantasy.
Please.

It could be engineered both ways. One where the two armies are locked and others where the armies can be selected.

Some folks enjoy ahistorical matches to compare armies from different periods.

I think these are good ideas, why not allow "what if" scenarios by giving more freedom of force selection in multiplayer games? I understand it's a historical game but just like war gaming people want to field their armies of interest against other armies that they may not have actually fought historically. I would love to see the option of both sides being able to pick their armies out of all available instead of the current system of if army A is picked than army B fights them.

Bear in mind that it is pretty easy to copy an existing campaign to your local folder (My Documents/My Games/PIKEANDSHOT/Campaigns) and then edit and tinker with it to your heart's content.

I managed to make a mod that lets you play ECW armies against TYW in skirmishes in about 20 minutes.
