Bug report

Post by jacknastyface »

Looked through the general and tech support pages...didn't see a post for this problem so thought I would post here. Sorry if this a repeat.
I just finished playing scenario four of the tutorial and encountered the following error: two units - one friendly, one enemy - were identified as being in melee combat even though they were NOT in adjacent squares. Screenshots following:

Best regards,

Many thanks.

Can you remember what led up to those units being in that position?

What happened to those two units in subsequent turns? Did they continue to Melee like that, or did they only do so once?

They were previously engaged in melee, and then my unit (the translyvanian hussars) fell back one square.
The two units were locked in combat in this way for the rest of the game. Neither side caused or suffered casualites. I did NOT engage another unit against the Cathoic cuirassiers.
I do have a save file of this battle, taken very shortly after the second screenshot (muskateers trying to shoot at cuirassiers).

By the way...totally awesome game.

Very peculiar.

Did the original combat arise from a pursuit?

Many thanks for this bug report, I have already discovered the bug in the "double check for proximity" routine that allowed them to continue in non-damaging combat for the rest of the game, but not yet the bug that prevented the close combat being immediately cancelled when the hussars broke off.

If the original combat was the result of a pursuit, then I have some ideas what might have caused that.

If you could send me the saved game to rbs@byzant.demon.co.uk that could be helpful, and I would be very grateful, although sadly it is usually the events leading up to these odd situations that are most enlightening.

Sounds great...where can I find the file, what's the name?

PS Using windows XP and playing the steam version...

They are in \My Documents\My Games\PikeandShot\Saves

Finding the name is potentially a problem as the filenames do not correspond to the names shown in the saved game list, and a search of the file for that string won't find it.

The way I do it is to load the game, then save it again, and then it will be the most recent save.
