how do i get tech support for graphics problem

Post by garyp »

I have loaded Pike & Shot - the intro graphics are fine but once the game starts I only have red/green/blue fuzzy ghost images - no clear graphics at all.

How do I get support to fix this - searching the forums does not help.

EDIT: The true solution to this problem is to disable the "Enable stereoscopic 3D" checkbox under "Stereoscopic 3D" in the nVidia control panel. (See RobGraat and VPaulus's posts below for details)

Sorry to hear this.

If you contact support@slitherine.co.uk they will hopefully sort you out.

Having said this, if you are seeing cyan/blue/green fuzzy ghost models of units and objects (a bit like the units shown below), it sounds a bit like you are missing a huge chunk of textures, which suggests that your installation may have gone wrong.

It might be worth reinstalling. (Or claim your Steam key and install via Steam).

thank you Richard - I did load the game via steam but cannot see any way to re-install (do I uninstall it off my computer first?) - and their help is virtually non-existent - just searches of their support topics which is proving futile. There does not appear to be any way to log a specific query that I can see.

very frustrating - puts me off the whole thing.

Go into your Steam library.

Right click on Pike and Shot. Select Properties.

Click on Verify Integrity of Game Cache and see if that comes up with anything.

Then Click on Delete Local Game content.

Then it should let you re-download the game.

Thanks again Richard - I have uninstalled the game and then reinstalled - same issue with the graphics remained.

I then followed your suggestions - verified cache - all files valid - deleted local content - reinstalled 3rd time - graphics still wrong.

Basically all the intro screens are good, as are the help bubbles and sprites in the actual game - just the map and the units look like a 3d screen without wearing 3d glasses (only much worse).

Support on steam appears to be limited to searches of the forums which is no support at all.

I will try again tomorrow and then likely write off my money as a bad investment - very disappointed.

Congratulations on your FoG series of tabletop games - but missing your input to the dbx games a lot!

Don't do that.

email support@slitherine.co.uk, they should hopefully be able to help. (Though perhaps not till Monday).

It is probably worth including details of your computer setup and graphics card.

Someone else had the exact same problem on this forum. With the game looking like 3d witout the glasses. Will try to find it.

Ok, could you try following the solution offered in this thread?

Like Rob told, please disable "Enable stereoscopic 3D" checkbox under "Stereoscopic 3D" in the nVidia control panel.

Does this mean that if you had the right stereoscopic glasses you could play P&S and BA2 in jump-out-at-you 3D?

Never tried Robert, so I can't say. I'm not sure how it works....
But that those images look like a 3D ghost image, they look.
Maybe I'll try on my next Nvidia card... :)

Thanks for the help - no luck so far as my NVIDIA Control Panel does not have the Stereoscopic 3D sub directory that apparently needs changing.

Any other suggestions most gratefully received.

Thanks, gary

Hi Gary

You must have it somewhere, if you have a Nvidia card. Could you please post a DxDiag report file?
How to get a Directx report file:

1. click on "START" (on Windows 8 Press "Windows Key" + "R" and go to step 3)
2. click "run"
3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice
6. open the text file, copy the contents, and post along with your issue.

sorry, no luck.
"windows" + "R" gets me a pop-up box titled "Run". Options are to "open:" but there are no choices if I click the drop arrow. Or I have the option to "Browse" which just lists all my directories such as "documents".
There is no "Step 3" that I can see.

My apologies - you are dealing with a person who just wants to play games - I am not a computer person.

I tried typing "dxdiag" into the "open:" box and clicked Ok which did bring up the direct X box - I have saved all the information from the video tab and forwarded this directly to Paulo - there were no tests to run though that I could see.

Success!

Many thanks indeed Paulo and Richard. Appears I needed to download the most recent version od NVIDIA in order to have the Stereoscpoic 3D attribute to turn off to make it all work - which it now does.

Not sure why the download had not happened automatically but no matter - all is well.

Many thanks again for the follow-up and perseverance.
